One thing that really struck me, when I was watching Sicko, was that the Canadian and British citizens, when talking about their national health service, had no real issue with their higher taxes, and really understood that part of what they were paying for, with those taxes, was the ability to have their health care covered. I think part of the problem I've seen in the US is that we don't want to pay for -anything-... American's want it all, and if it was -free- they'd take it and bitch about it... and they pay out of pocket -- thousands and thousands of dollars more than they would if taxed-- but if you tell them their taxes are going up, heaven forbid! Just think about it -- you pay an extra, say, 10% per year in taxes (and believe it or not, this is less than my annual insurance premiums just for -me-, not including offspring or spouse, copays, deductibles, and prescription payments, dental insurance, vision insurance, or catastrophic care bills), but you have NO health care insurance premiums, no co-pays, no exorbitant prescription costs... so who's so dumb?
