I have a cell, and use it mostly to check in with my kid or in case of an emergency, or when I don't want to give my landline for some reason.  I don't chat while I'm driving.  I think there should be stiffer penalties for cell phone usage on the road, but then I also think eating while driving should be illegal too, not to mention those people who let their little dogs sit on their lap while they're driving.

On rare occasion, if I'm in the grocery store, my kid might call and say "mom could you pick up so and so".  I answer her "ok hon, see ya in a few" and that's that.  I can't stand when people walk up and down the aisles chatting away.  A quick relevent call is understandable, but walking up and down the aisles subjecting other people to lengthy, audible, and personal conversations is, in my book, rude.

I hate texting too.  It's almost always women that insist on trying to have a conversation with me via texting.  I have not mastered it, so it takes me forever to write out a simple message.  I don't mind simple messages like, "Call me," "Be there in an hour," "enroute to your place," etc.  But I am refuse to attempt carrying on a conversation with text.  I have an ex-girlfriend that did it all the time, and it irritated the shit out of me.

I don't mind texting, but not when you get that T9 predictive text feature, which I always have problems with.

I remember when I once sent 'I'm at the doctor's, it might be aids' instead of 'I'm at the doctor's, it might be ages.'

I'm walking into enemy territory here, but I have a blackberry and I use it - often.  Email, texting, phone (and yes, even a bluetooth).  Our society is changing.  People use multifunctional cell phones now.  Some people are rude and inconsiderate about it, and others are not.  I have talked while grocery shopping (and yes, I'd see you putting stuff in my cart).  I don't shout into the phone, if I'm talking with the bluetooth and passing by someone who might mistakenly think I'm talking to them, I put my finger to the earpiece and smile at them.  My use of my phone will not intrude on your world.  So, call me....well I forgot all the names Stella used in her thread - call me what you want, but my blackberry isn't going away any time soon.

I wouldn't dream of calling you any names.. *smiles* And it's not ALL cellphone users just SOME, you know, the ones that barely miss you in their cars etc.

Awww thanks, Stella!  And I do hear ya, about the annoying cell users.  For those who aren't annoying, I see talking on the phone - whether in a store or anywhere else - equivalent to having a conversation with a person they might be with, provided they speak at the same volume level.  It's the same as considering two people shopping together rude, for subjecting others to their conversation and...well...presence, lol.  It's the loud-talkers who are annoying, but not all of us are like that.    Personally, I don't LIKE talking while shopping (whether in person or on the phone) - I like to focus on shopping.

I don't even use a land line anymore - it's all cell for me.  And with bluetooth my hands are free, so I can pretty much pay attention to what I'm doing when talking.  Since I'm rarely home anymore, conversations aren't saved for when I AM at home - it's not that they're so important they can't wait, it's simply a matter of convenience and time.

One thing I don't do, though, is talk on the phone in restaurants.  It annoys ME to do that, so I don't.

Anyway, Stella, your OP was amusing, and I'm glad you don't think all of us should...well...go jump off a bridge or something!
