Hurkan1618 -> An idea to weed out fakes (6/7/2009 11:36:48 PM)

Again for A/any who don't know I am fairly new to online so if this is common procedure please ignore.

I was able to successfully confirm someone as real (appearance-wise) by requesting a special picture.

Most people have cell phones with a camera or a digital camera fairly handy I assume. I simply asked if she had her camera available to take a face only picture and send it to me. She agreed. However, I gave her a 5 minute time limit to also write a message (I determined on the spot) on a piece of paper and have the message appear clearly within the frame. Confirmed.

This idea is only a start. I know there is more to weed out for besides appearance so does A/anyone have any other ideas/tips for weeding out fakes?

Online certainly has it's own special "challenges".

I think you're complicating something that's not all that hard to ascertain.

Just my take. Good luck.

I just have them FedEx copies of their birth certificate, social security card, lease/mortgage paperwork, employment pay stubs, fingerprint printouts, high school portraits and at least two images taken in the last year.  Upon receipt of these items, I mail back a 3-minute choreographed dance routine which involves having them paste the original versions of the copies they sent me to different parts of their body. When they receive this mail back from me, a specific time is set by me during which they are to send me a live video feed of them performing the aforementioned dance routine.

If all looks like it's on the up and up at that point, I give them an official "Non-Fake" sticky and we go from there.

I came across a sub on another site who, in all apparent seriousness, does something similar. Sans the dance routine though.

Could you elaborate on ascertaining, Musicmystery?

I can see no other way to ascertain truthful "physical representation" without meeting in person or webcam.

littlewonder -> RE: An idea to weed out fakes (6/8/2009 3:39:17 AM)

Seems like a lot of trouble.

Easier to just talk to them and get to know them and then meet in person if you both feel a connection.

CatdeMedici -> RE: An idea to weed out fakes (6/8/2009 3:43:43 AM)

The only thing you determined was that there was a real person at the other end of the screen---how that defines this person is not a fake IMHO is still a mystery. I mean you could be one for all they know---just sayin...[8|]

DesFIP -> RE: An idea to weed out fakes (6/8/2009 3:52:24 AM)

I hope you offered to do the same first, to prove you're real.
Assuming they're local, wouldn't it have been just as easy to mention you were going to the coffee shop at the corner of Oak and Elm after work and you would be wearing a blue shirt.

Just nail the idiots when they do not answer simple questions, or obviously have not bother to read profiles.

Sorry for the attitude ... dealing with one case right now who will be put on ignore on their next response (I bet).

I'm fake because I never thought getting a camera phone was necessary.

Was easier for me to just arrage to meet just as soon as possible.   I talked to several guys who really wanted all kinds of guarantees before meeting, wanted lengthy on-line courtship period.  I'm old so I just didn't have time for that crap.  Master and I lived 500 miles apart and met in person within 6 weeks of initial contact.

However, considering the divorce rate, even marrying 'em is no guarantee that they aren't "fake".

I know that guy. He has a real feminine voice, don't he? You should see him in person. But for the photo, he ran next door and took a picture of his neighbor. She's a cutie! But hey listen, he really likes being your bitch, so I hope you won't tell him I told you.

RCdc -> RE: An idea to weed out fakes (6/8/2009 4:22:00 AM)

As long as its a 'ill show you mine if you show me yours, it's all good.
Bit of a time waste for me personally.  I rely on other things, like their social life and structure.  A photo is only a visable representation.  Doesn't weed out anyone pretending to be what they are not.

'Fake' is a pointless and horrible word and just makes you look like just another of the countless people who whine when they cannot find what they want.  Sure people lie and people pretend to be what they may not be. But that's just life.

What's the big deal with fakes and wannabes etc?  Don't they deserve their fate when caught out?

Aren't fem/subs (the most likely victims?) allowed to "play with their food" occasionally, too?

I prefer to throw them into the village lake. If they float, they are a fake.

No, wait... that's witches.

GYPZYQUEEN -> RE: An idea to weed out fakes (6/8/2009 4:53:46 AM)

that's why I sank...oh oh..

OP:
It was a good idea you had to feel comfortable right away..
There are many ideas and what ever works for you..do it..
we all need to be safe

I find that as soon as I mention MEETING then the reality sets in
I ask to meet fairly quickly like within a week if they are in the city..for coffee..or simple lunch..or at a  park setting maybe..for iced tea.

Hurkan1618 -> RE: An idea to weed out fakes (6/8/2009 5:20:25 AM)

littlewonder: I completely agree with you, however, see below.
CatdeMedici: I should have emphasized earlier that a connection was forming before I requested.

I know several people who have tried meeting people online (non BDSM). The online chatting went well and they decide to meet. Results were either the person misrepresented themselves physically or the person never showed/disappeared online. It was frustrating for them.

I personally have had two significant experiences so far (on another site) in which yes we chatted and all seemed great. There was great distance between us and in both cases a webcam was not available. First person agreed (she was a sub) and the picture she posted was very different. I tried to understand why but she could not give a reasonable answer. Found out later it was her typical mode of operating. A game and she was VERY VERY good at it. If I see her on here I will call her out.

The second agreed also but it turned out very positive for both of us. She was a slave and enjoyed what I had requested. Unfortunately, there are situations that keep us apart.

Imagine if you thought you were making a real connection with someone, agreed to meet, and come to find blatant physical misrepresentation. There is more to a person than physical appearance of course. However, if someone attracts you physically then turns out very different it shatters the trust in a way and taints whatever connection was developed.

I am simply trying to find a way (early on) to avoid wasting time but perhaps it's an unavoidable aspect of online ...

barelynangel -> RE: An idea to weed out fakes (6/8/2009 5:35:02 AM)

This seems like way to much effort to me -- i mean if you are that distrusting -- i am having a hard time understanding this -- do you think you are talking to robots on here so you figure if someone shows you a face pic with a message on it -- it will clarify they are human?

I fail to see how a picture remotely explains to you how someone isn't a "fake."  unless you think you are speaking with simulated robots.

I can tell you this much -- your insecurity and paranoa would turn me off and you would be deemed a paranoid, overly sensitive, and way to much effort for the little amount of time we would have been talking lol.  Pretty much like Men who complain about fakes and frauds in their profile.  Way to whiny.

I enjoy getting to know people but i don't owe people i don't know anything ESPECIALLY not a picture when i have no clue what they are going to do with it.

A good way not to waste time is well meet them, second thing if you can't do that right away is get to know the person -- a picture isn't going to tell you a whole hell of a lot about the person.

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: An idea to weed out fakes (6/8/2009 6:27:45 AM)

Silly me... I just meet them in person at the local coffee shop. Just think, I could have made it -so- much more complicated, and I didn't even TRY! [;)]

Better not, as that may trigger the POD on CollarMe. (Procedure of dismemberment, if I recall correctly. Anyway, I am fairly sure that it is three letters with an O in the middle.)
