That seems to me to be the onlyway to deal with the issue. However, as was pointed out above, the simple, and increasingly routine, ultrasound is easily able to determine the sex of a child. So the idea of banning gender testing is itself sort of pointless, unless we are no longer going to reveal the sex from an ultra sound, which would involve not allowing the ultrasound recipient to see the screen during the procedure, speaking from experience, a male child can be DAMN obvious on an ultrasound.
when my husband saw our son on the ultrasound he let out a huge "MY BOY!!!!!" ...then the tech told him he was looking at the umbilical cord[8|]

I realize i may hold an unpopular opinion here...but if she chooses abortion, let it be because she does not want the baby... not because the baby is not good enough...

Yet it is a fact that a woman can alter the Ph level of her womb to be slightly more acidic or alkaline which in turn will can increase the chances for the egg to be fertilized by a spermatozoa which will increase the chances of the egg developing into a male or female fetus. Now how is this gender manipulation any different from other countries where woman are prone to abort a fetus which is female? Where do we draw the line?

Holly........you also have to realize that with some, the reason to abort is not exactly as a woman states why she wants to abort. I've always took the stance that it is a woman who has a right to carry a fetus full term or not, simply on the fact that she is the one who has the ability to do so, we males are simply sperm factories. I have no right to tell a woman she is not allowed to abort, all I can do is hope that her choice is one she knows is best for her. I am not naive to believe that every reason given is legit and yes there are probably a few who abort because the fetus is the wrong gender or some other factor; yes it is sad and a tragedy.
Morally I cringe at the thought of a potential human or any human being killed, yet as .dark had stated.....I can not attach stipulations to this issue, to do so would make my entire beliefs a lie.
i do not want to come across as a naive ninny...but don't you think the line needs to be drawn here? Determining the sex of the baby is a given, if the parents choose to do so. But why take it any further? Why take it to hair color, eye color, sexual orientation, etc? It is my belief those days are not too far away...

I do know you for being a smart person Holly. What I am trying to get at is the fact that with women having the right to abortion, we also have to accept that fact that some will abort for reasons which are immoral and highly unethical. Unfortunately that is a bitter pill to swallow yet it is always a possibility.

Because it is a woman's right to choose. Period. We cannot restrict rights simply because we find a person's motivation for execising that right distatseful. If you are to forbid abortions on the basis of gender (or eye colour, or whatever) then what is to prevent other reasons from being added to that list?

And as I stated before, there is no way to prove why a woman wants an abortion, what is to prevent a woman from aborting a blue-eyed fetus, claiming that she doesn't feel emotionally capable of caring for the child? Conversly, what is to stop someone from attempting to prevent an abortion by claiming the reason is that the fetus is blue-eyed? To start limiting a woman's right to an abortion for this reason, which you agree with, opens the door to allowing it to be limited for other reasons, which you may not agree with.

Arpig...i do not agree with the types of testing that determines such things as hair color, eye color, etc.
I just don't.[>:]

~ General Reply ~

This is why we need to develop uterine replicators!  Then we can just lock down everyones gonads and baby-making will ONLY come about by CHOICE!  No more carrying them in the womb, they will grow in a 'can' which will be much safer and healthier for all involved.

Well holly, I think I might agree with you on that point. Not entirely sure though, I will have to think on it (next smoke break, I promise).
