TheHeretic -> Ok. Can we just shoot him now, and save a lot of money? (6/9/2009 6:51:21 PM)

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A Muslim convert charged with fatally shooting an American soldier at a military recruiting center said Tuesday that he doesn't consider the killing a murder because U.S. military action in the Middle East made the killing justified.

"I do feel I'm not guilty," Abdulhakim Muhammad told The Associated Press in a collect call from the Pulaski County jail. "I don't think it was murder, because murder is when a person kills another person without justified reason."

an interesting view of things which he might yet regret were it applied to his case perhaps - although martyrdom is quite popular these days so I hear; therefore no death penalty

Suppose it were an American soldier charged with fatally shooting a Muslim convert (in the U.S., let's say), and he didn't consider the killing a murder.  Would you still be asking if we can shoot him now, and save a lot of money?

Heretic is making a perfect example of the sort of thinking that got the GOP tossed out on it's ass last November.

No... First we give him a fair trial, and convict him by a jury of his peers. Then, we just toss his ass in a supermax, and wait for the other prisoners to shank him in the yard... If you give him the death penalty, he'll just be isolated from the others, and things will drag on, and on, through the automatic appeals process.

Think this crap though first, will ya?

If he is definately guilty, I don't care if he is an American or a Muslim. In my mind the death penalty is fine. The problem is, as Mars has noticed, they sit on death row for 20 years or so. If convicted, and it there is no question, execute them within months...

     Yes.  (dumbass question)

See there? It was merely an act of war.  Why not, if we can bring terrorists here and try them under our laws for acts committed in Kenya it seems like anything goes. Hold him as a POW in GITMO until the war is over, or shoot him as a non uniformed combatant (spy).

not worth it

I'm pretty sure treason carries the death penalty too.  Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

   Yes.  (dumbass question)

Dumbass answer.  You think shooting people who are charged with murder is OK? [8|]

(How about those American soldiers who were charged with murdering Muslims in Haditha, Iraq?  Is "shooting them now" OK too?  If so, did you make a post advocating it?)

I did.  Apparently you guys think we should skip the trial, and shoot him now.

What constitutes "if there is no question"?  You do know that murder convictions require "beyond a reasonable doubt", yes?  Is there a "really really certain" level of conviction in our court systems that's above that?

You are aware that there have been people on death row exonerated on appeal, yes?  Would you rather they had been executed within months, even though they were actually innocent?

No, but since I  don't have any reason to think you're going get the difference, this will be the end of my replies to you.  I'm all in for speeding up the process on murderers who call the Associated Press to brag about the murders.

I'm not sure where you came up with the rest of the gibberish you posted.

Dude, you were the one who asked "Can we just shoot him now".  Hint for ya: "now" would be at the point he's charged with murder.  Make up your mind--your backpedaling is embarrassing.

What difference does calling the AP make to the process? [8|]

What an odd sense of the American justice system you have.

Edit:  Haditha is a rather famous incident of the Iraq War, covered extensively in the news at the time.  Just because you happen to be ignorant of it in no way makes it "gibberish".  Educate yourself before typing next time, and you won't have to wonder where I "came up" with a reference.

the man in question admitted to the crime, hell he was proud of it!
your right, he hasnt been found guilty by a court trial yet, though I am certain that his defense of ((Well I dont like them soldiers in the middle east) will get him cleared of all charges :P
