For god's sake, other than the male cocksucking one, this is the longest thread on the page.  How many different scents can there be?

If I answered that question, it wouldn't make any scents to you.

Gawd.  The mixture of smells in department store perfumeries is hideous.  It's bad enough having to brave that awful fog of chemicals for ten minutes just to buy some stinkwater for someone, never mind having to work in that atmosphere all day.  I've never understood how the assistants manage it.

The fragrance assault can be offset by sniffing coffee beans. It restores olfactory balance - it is comparable to a swish of water to cleanse the palate after a wine-tasting. Just ask the nice lady at the counter - they usually keep a small jar of coffee beans on hand.

Thanks for that tip, Ms F.

For what it's worth, I like most scents that women use.  It's just that some women seem to wear way too much of the stuff.   Looking overpowering is one thing, smelling overpowering is quite another.

I have decided to blame the marketers that invented scent layering, and the Bath & Body Works folks.  I have ghastly dry skin, and one night I used the White Tea and Ginger stuff on myself...  the entire ROOM was full of the smell the next morning!  I was my own Airwick!

I will not be doing that again...  I always wear perfume, but it does not enter the room before I do.

I think there was a phase, now passed, when they used to make hyper-musky sorts of scents.  Those are the most overpowering ones, unless used very sparingly.

Good riddance. Especially in this sort of weather, there is nothing like a clean scent of lemons, linen, cotton, etc...:)

Actually, most of those I find really lovely.  The Body Shop used to be great to walk into, just to sniff.  I even like vanilla, though I see some have slated it here.  A friend used to swear by vanilla.  She was forever telling us how it was once seen as having a magical effect on males and that the word 'vanilla' has the same root as the word 'vagina'.  Reference to the shape of the flower, apparently.

Actually, VANILLA smells like cookies, a food smell, attractive to many.  Now we all know that men's favourite scent is really BACON, right?

Do any of you use Avon's Mark line?  There is a "lemon sugar" scented line that I am interested in but I want to know if it smells really lemony, or just faint.

Go with 'faint', Lady Hib.

Now I shall say this next bit very carefully:

Obviously, women wear perfume to please themselves, not to please men.  Utterly, totally and completely accepted.  But if, IF they were to wear it to please men, to any extent at all, I'd suggest that mens' olfactory wiring doesn't work the same way as their visual wiring.  To be blunt, you can go out looking like an utter slapper and still even decent men will privately think "hubbah".   The same men, though, will think "Ouch" if you overdo it on the perfume.  Yes, I know it makes no sense.

Chanel No. 5 because it is very subtle and another one called Joy are my favorites. Mostly I have worn Chanel No. 5 for the last 20 years or so though.

i'm not a big perfume fan.  i do like sunflowers, it's light and summery.  i also love Aveda energizing composition for a hint of fresh scent that isn't overpowering.

Other than the soap in the bathroom, which is dove soap, and I didn't pick it I just use it, and the scent in the shampoo which again I didn't pick I just use it, I don't believe in wearing perfumes or scents.

My mom does too but UGH she sprays way to much, one little spritz is enough, and she does like three, and it's so thick in the air you can taste it, and if you're confined in a car right after she sprayed it on, well poor you. It just dominates the whole car and not in a fun pleasant or sexy way but a gag cough choke choke cant breathe way.

I got the Dune by default, my aunt sent it to my grandmother, and the wild one passed before she could use it...    But I love it, and think of her whenever I use it.

This is why I leave my wallet at home. I hate to smell like money.

As for perfumes. Channel #5 and Estee Lauder have always been favourites of mine.  I also like to walk past a women with that fresh and fruity smell.

If anyone uses perfume that smells like instant coffee, i`m hooked.
