For me. . . it usually has to do with some sort of exchanged mail over some topic that the person has posted to, sometimes moving to IMs or phone calls, and then if it is doable coffee or dinner or just a face-to-face meet. The "meat-life" meet is usually the hardest just becausee of time constraints and distance, but it can be done. You just have to decide that it is something that you want to do. Think of it as a form of being pen-pals.

have you gone outside of L.A.? San Diego has a decent munch. Meeting people that are already attached is a great way to network, too....
