LOL.    It only took em 20 years!   I voted with my dollar.   I dumped TV.   No more $63 a month.   The sound booms were 1 reason.

Shoddy programming and numerous interruptions were other reasons.... and cost added to the mess.

yeah
that is why I like the On-Demand programming though sometimes even that has commercials.

There are already devices you can put on that limit the audio levels, but hey, what is one more government control in our lives?

We use our DVR...we record the show and then can fast forward through the commercials, totally killing the audio, though we still see the visual.

Hahahahaha!  And the first person that I thought of when I read the thread title was none other than Mr. Mays himself.

HIIII!  I'M BILLY MAYS!

However, I'm kind of against this kind of shit.  I mean, I HAVE a remote control, and am able to, if it's too annoying, change stations or *GASP* turn the volume down.  But, this wouldn't be america if we wouldn't just rather yell and holler and fuss and sue people instead of pushing our obese thumb down on the remote for a couple seconds.

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: loud commercials to be outlawed??? (6/12/2009 9:09:19 PM)

Remote's not an option for me, because I have vintage amplifiers in my home theater system. They hadn't perfected remotes yet when my amps were built. I need to set a reasonable volume level and leave it for each program I watch. As someone who lives in a duplex, I'm all for this. As it happens, I rarely watch network television anyway, but when I'm watching the late news or something on the history channel, I get sick of being blown halfway across the room whenever they cut to a commercial.

Nothing will drive me crazy, more than loud commercials, it makes me loooney tunes pisssed off.

LadyEllen -> RE: loud commercials to be outlawed??? (6/13/2009 6:33:16 AM)

if you all sat still and watched the commercials like good consumers, instead of going to the loo or getting a drink then there would be no need for the extra volume at the ad breaks.

so, you bring it all on your selves, dont you see?

OMG lol i thought it was my new TV.  I kept changing my stereo thing because i thought the TV had a setting where it adjusts automatically lol to lower and raise volume to make it one volume.  I am all for this -- it drives me nuts to have to keep raising and lowering the volume because i live in an apartment and the person next to me is deaf so the vibrations of loud commercials she can "hear."  She is really cool about it but still i try and be a nice neighbor.

I feel awful when the sudden explosion of sound before i can get to remote reverberates around my apartment especially at night -- as i am a night owl, and i have little kids over sleeping and sometimes it startles them awake and then they are up for a while lol.

And yeah, its annoying and i think caps should be put on marketing aspects of life.  Whether its an act of congress -- i don't know they deal with some crazy stuff and because of our society -- most things HAVE to end up going through congress because people simply can't work things out themselves and what to do what they want to do.

As i said lol i didn't know this was it but it makes sense now.

With all the problems in the world and this country, the fact that Congress is actually even entertaining a bill on this is ridiculous.  If it is too much of a bother to hit the "mute" button or adjust the volume, it seems like you might have bigger issues than simply loud commercials.

Yet one more reason why I do not watch television.
