When traveling through the deserts of the southwestern US a thousand summers ago I was crossing a reservation. At the checkpoint the "guard" asked me the purpose of my travels/visit. I replied "Just bringing guns and whiskey to the Indians Ma'am."

The searched my entire vehicle for over 2 hours. Everything I had was gone through with a fine toothed comb. My "goods" were strung out all over the side of the road. It took me as many hours to get it reorganized and repacked.

I don't do that kind of thing anymore, but I do get a little rebelious/comic grin out of that time.

I used to drive tour buses for bands.  There was one band (god, didn't I love them!) where the singer was a collector of motorcycle club memorabilia..

we got to the Canadian border.  I had to wake the guys for the crossing.  The singer - mostly asleep - grabbed the first shirt that came to hand.. which happened to be a 60's era Hell's Angels shirt.

We were detained (by the RCMP)  for over 7 hrs.

What I found especially amusing was that besides him, the only other person besides him that had ANY biker connection was me.

After comparing notes, it seems that the band and crew (all guys) were questioned about any affiliations etc with bike clubs.

I wasnt.

And I had more 'affiliations' than the singer did...

This is why my "twang/drawl" gets MUCH, MUCH stronger at customs, and security -- at least under the Bush era, I just walked around British metal detectors, and got waived through US Customs -- even forgot to fill out the forms...

Dictatorships OTH, are a whole different matter. Very, very, very thorough security.
