Now you are getting truly ridiculous. Are you seriously proposing that this is a coordinated effort by the Mexican government? Or by the Canadian government - one of the largest groups of illegal immigrants is Canadian.

Here is a link showing that the Mexican government is giving them maps to help them cross.

It may not be that coordinated but it's there none the less. They Mexican government say's cross and they cross. What would you call it?

You said before that there are about 12 million illegals. I assume we are talking about the ones from Mexico. And you said that Canadian Illegals are one of the largest group of illegals. So there are what, about 12 million illegal Canadians living here? Where did you find that out? I have not heard anything about there being anywhere near that many illegal Canadians.

This seems more like an attempt to mitigate deaths than an attempt to encourage crossings. "Look, since you're so keen on crossing anyways, here's how you NOT DIE while doing it."

I'm all for people NOT DYING, personally.

No, the Mexican government says "IF you cross, here's WHERE and HOW to cross so you DON'T DIE." To use a metpahor, that's like saying contraceptive advice is intended to promote teen promiscuity.

Not the OP, but there are approximately 11.5 million illegals - total illegals, not just Mexicans. Mexicans count for a little over half, at 6.5 million. Other "may as well be Mexican" illegals, from all the other Central and South American countries, count for another 25%. Asians count for another 10% or so. Canadians aren't actually that high on the list, at just shy of 100,000 - altogether, "white folk" count for about 6% or so of our illegal immigration - around 400,000 people.

EDIT: Time to break these numbers down a little further.

It appears that of the 11.5 million undocumented immigrants in the US, just under 3 million of them are in California, of whom just over 2.5 million are from Mexico or other Latin American countries.

California's population is just shy of 40 million people, once you include undocumented; the US population is just above 300 million.

So, some quick math:

300/12=25

40/2.5=16

So, for the US as a whole, one in twenty-five people isn't on the books. For every "illegal", there's 24 people who are here by one official channel or another. In California, it's one in sixteen - for every fifteen citizens and documented immigrants, there's one person outside the system.

Which is an interesting way to look at it - even if these people were doing nothing, and taking exactly as many resources from our system as everyone else, without putting anything back in, the total immigration problem amounts to about 4% of your total resources - 6% if you're in California.

Me too. Stay the fuck home. Make your country something to be proud of and not a hellhole to flee. If I were in thier shoes i would likely do the same as them. But we also can not allow them to cross illegally because we sympathise with them. I can understand a destitute man stealing from me to survive. But just because I sympathise does not mean I am going to let him walk out my house with my shit.

A person who might drink a coke watches how much of it they drink. Give him a diet coke and he will drink twice as much of it. Lessen the danger and people tend to do that much more of it. Give someone a tiny smart car and they will likely drive it carefully. Give em a hummer and well...

What is that dollar amount of that total  of resources? And can you calculate that 4% to 6% and send me that tiny sliver of money please? I can put it to use. Every crumb counts.

12 million total from all countries. The actual number is not known, but the consensus estimate seems to be somewhere between 11 and 12 million. I've heard guesses ranging from as low as 10 million to as high as 20 million.

Canadians are particularly hard to count. I've seen anything from "second-largest group" to "among the top seven" to "not even among the top ten". I doubt Ialdabaoth's number of 100,000 - that's probably undercounting them substantially. Even that number would still put Canada in approximately the top 15 countries.

For one, Canadians are not easily identified by appearance or language. For another, because of the open northern border, many Canadians may not even realize that they are illegal immigrants. And we as Americans also tend to dismiss the exact same violations by a Canadian as a "technicality" when we would consider them a serious matter by a Mexican.

Canadians are allowed to come to the USA as tourists for up to six months without any paperwork. Many supplement their incomes with an odd job. Others attend college without obtaining the proper paperwork. Other Canadians think that because the US border is so open and the countries are so similar, moving from Toronto to Buffalo is just as OK as moving from Toronto to Winnipeg. Not so - a Canadian who moves to Buffalo without the proper paperwork is an illegal immigrant.

And a Canadian hiker who simply hikes from Waterton National Park to Glacier National Park is also an illegal immigrant.

So is a Canadian who lives with her US boyfriend in Detroit and goes to work in Windsor every day (she, of course, will get caught fairly soon).
