Have been instructed to buy rope so Master can use bondage on slaves breasts and around neck to make bra type restraint as well as having more left to use elsewhere, what sort of length does slave buy and what types of rope do others reccommend

MsMillgrove -> RE: Rope advice needed please (6/17/2009 1:36:29 PM)

I like the polyester blend from Home Depot in the 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch sizes. Whatever rope you buy, take the time to study online.. the instructions for how to finish off the ends of the rope with very matching thin cord (like a thick thread)...I get that at Domme Depot too. It looks so much prettier than taping or or burning the ends of the rope to prevent fraying. It you do it very very tightly.. it will hold up when you wash the rope.  Length depends on the style of harness your master is going to create.  I buy the package of 50 foot and cut into (2)  25 ft. lengths. But you can also buy any length.. they cut it for you...off the large rolls of rope.
Ask master if he prefers white or black. I use the white myself.
I'm sure you'll get lots of other opinions as there are pros and cons and every dom has his own likes.  It's a bit odd that your master doesn't specify which type he likes.  Did you ask?  I think maybe you need to ask him exactly what he wants, rather than make the decision on  your own.
Nylon rope tends to be slippery with knots.. and can loosen.  Silk cord is of course beautiful and much more expensive.  Hemp softens over time but some feel it's too scratchy.

buy what ever kind makes *you* fell comfortable. as a top, when I ask a sub to buy something like this, it's because I have some wicked ideas in mind and want them to choose how comfortable they will be.

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Rope advice needed please (6/18/2009 12:46:17 AM)

I usually go for a soft poly blend, length is really dependant on your measurments, but one 10 ft, one 15 foot and one 25 foot couldnt hurt :)
the most im[portant balance you need here is between scratchiness and slippiness. make sure that the rope isnt too soft, or the knots can slip, causing serious issues. Other than that, check out This Site for some good info

FR, after read thru

Touch the rope -- if you'd want it on your body, then it's a go . . . . .. I like the soft nylon & polyester rope best, as both a top & a bottom . . . . .

Lengths? In my experience short lengths (~10 foot) are useful for binding ankles, wrists, that sorta thing . . . . . . For body harnesses, especially on larger sized individuals, I prefer 50 foot lengths, or even 100 (tho' 100' lengths can be more work to handle) . . . . . Rope corsets & rope mummification require longer lengths, for me . . . . . . . & once rope is cut it cannot be uncut . . . . . I have a variety of lengths, but anymore when I get new rope it tends to get cut to 50' lengths as I do a lot of body harness tying . . . . . .

Here's a tutorial on how to whip-finish the ends (also works to mark the middle of the length of rope): http://www.ropefashions.com/fashions2/thumbnails.php?album=29

I use embroidery floss for the whip-finish on my rope, it looks nice, I can do the color-coordinating stuff I like, & it holds up to washing . . . . .

Hotch -> RE: Rope advice needed please (6/20/2009 9:16:31 AM)

For the really anal, uber organized Dom, you can color code the whipping according to rope length.[;)]

When you get to the point of going to the store to buy it find the one that feels the nicest to you, but more importantly play with it a little. Tie a few knots, either just in the rope or to the metal stand the rope is on. You’re not going to draw attention to yourself doing it. Some rope blends become sticky as there tied and pulled tight. You really don't want a rope that is hard to undo even a basic knot. If you need to get out it may take a while. And always keep safety scissors nearby.    Anyone looking for great tutorials on how to do some basic ties to start check out the twistedmunk website.

Or, alternately, what I do is have the number of bands of embroidery floss correlate to the length: one band is for the ~10 foot lengths, two bands for the ~20 foot lengths, three bands for ~30 foot lengths & so on . . . . . Takes a little more work, but either method results in being able to tell length of rope at a glance . . . . . & I like being able to use the whole rainbow of embroidery floss colors in different combos on the mostly black or white rope I have . . . . .

Some of the nicest handling ropes are the modern sheathed ones -- now, you shouldn't buy these, as you'd be paying for something you'd never need, but be sure you don't buy some of the new spiffy ropes used on boats. The spectra lines, and I think some of the others, are almost impossible to cut in a hurry, esp. w.o. a dendritic steel knife.

DemonKia -> RE: Rope advice needed please (6/22/2009 1:03:58 AM)

Would those be available at Home Depot / Lowe's / etc? Or are those specialty kindsa ropes, something you'd find at a mountaineering supply place or similar? & would they be cheap or expensive?

FlipFlip -> RE: Rope advice needed please (6/22/2009 8:01:58 PM)

I was wondering if anyone here had experience with using strips of fabric as rope? My sub works with clothes and i have been tempted to try tying her up with the strips of fabric hanging around.
If you have had experience was it good? The fabric strong enough? Comfortable enough? Uncomfortable enough?
I suppose i should just try it but im still curious to see what othr people think.

darkprinceb13 -> RE: Rope advice needed please (6/22/2009 8:12:28 PM)

Specialty rope for climbing is incredibly strong. I wouldn't recommend using that for bondage. For a hammock yes, sub no.

Joseff -> RE: Rope advice needed please (6/29/2009 9:31:38 PM)

For breast bondage I prefer something flat. I have miles of cotton cord that is basically shoestring material. Paracord works well too.

BalletBob -> RE: Rope advice needed please (6/30/2009 5:35:18 PM)

I LOVE Nylon Braided, and cut 6=12' Lengths. And a 5' piece to make Rope Hand Cuffs.   YUMMY !

Wish I was Tied now, sub BalletBob

DemonKia -> RE: Rope advice needed please (6/30/2009 10:31:13 PM)

Just to be clear, I suspect that the specialty sailing & climbing ropes are probably quite a bit more expensive & hard to find than the nylon & poly stuff found at Home Depot, et al. & thus people aren't likely to 'stumble' into using these less appropriate materials, both because they're hard to find & pricey.

& flipflip, I've used strips of cloth quite successfully in bondage. I have a large quantity of strips of some stretchy nylon or poly jersey that I prefer for tying up boy-bits. I like to play around with my own version of that Japanese thing where they wrapped the length of the penis in cord, & these strips work really well for that . .. .

I find bondage to be a very creative thing, & I get very experimental about draping the body, working to get the look right as well as taking care of the bottoms comfort & safety . . .

FlipFlip -> RE: Rope advice needed please (7/7/2009 9:45:35 PM)

I have been using strips of cotton or similar fabric as bondage rope, cause my sub works with clothes and  costumes there is always plenty hanging about the house. I also find it easier to tie knots in although a little harder to undo if you tied the wrong knot a there was a lot of struggling going on.

badgercouple -> RE: Rope advice needed please (7/10/2009 1:11:32 PM)

Ice Hockey laces are awesome for smaller restraining stuff and they can be bought in up to 120" (occasionally 130") lengths, which would be 10 feet worth. It's cheap and both of us play so we have plenty around the house.... [;)]

BoundDragon -> RE: Rope advice needed please (7/16/2009 12:01:54 PM)

It depends what you like as a slave, a nice soft rope is great but if you are like me you may like it to cut in a bit (not rip the skin to shreds though).
I would definately test the rope against your skin... especially pulled tight as taught rope does differ in properties to loose.

What ever you choose I hope you have fun[;)]

fairerthanshe -> RE: Rope advice needed please (7/16/2009 12:09:41 PM)

Check out www.bossbondage.com for all your rope needs.  Rope available in a variety of colors, some jute and some hemp.  30' lenths are what you need to do most bondage.

For people new to rope, I suggest Lee "Bridgett" Harrington's classic Shibari You Can Use, which is also available through www.bossbondage.com

For further learning, you might consider attending a rope-focused event, such as OctRoperFest, this October in Austin, Texas.  Information available at http://octroperfest.com

Best of luck to you ~ fairer than she
