...when curves has nothing to do with it? Curves are just that. Curves. When you see a sign that says "curve" ahead, it doesn't mean that the road gets bigger. It means there is a curve. Deep curves. Sudden curves. Curves that are worth warning people about. When I think 'curvy' I think hour glass, pear shape, coke bottle, etc. And, no, I am not bashing big women. Every woman in my family over 30 is big. They're beautiful and I love them to death. But I do think it's a little unfair that the term has sort of been usurped. Since I don't have a pic up (yet) I generally describe myself as curvy and petite. Guys are like "whaa? how is this possible?" because the term 'curvy' means big or fat. Where did this come from? How am I suppose to describe myself as since 'curvy' is taken? "Uhhh I go in at the waist and out at the hips." Why are big women considered curvy when most look round anyway? I think the term BBW is perfect. Why use curvy when curves most likely have nothing to do with it?

I think it comes down to what most be genetics, most larger women have hips and most smaller women do not, so it just kind of worked out that way if that makes any sense

Thought I would add something constructive to my initial snippy comment  - could you maybe describe yourself as I don't know having Monroe-esque curves or whoever you resemble, or suggest that the men be a tad more open minded about language, or put a photo up to show your curves better, or put your measurements in your profile if it is important that people get the right idea of you.

Focus on what you can change (ie. being more descriptive in your profile or conversations) rather than on expecting others to change how they use a word simply because you feel it reflects badly on yourself.

Are you kidding me?  Usurped?  Last time I checked, every one has a right to use whatever words they want.  If us bigger curvy gals wanna say we are curvy, we can.  If you smaller curvy gals wanna say you are curvy, guess what?  YOU CAN TOO!  Just because a description is used for one group, doesnt mean it cant apply to another.

Seriously, get over yourself.  The word is flexible enough for us to all share.  Or, you can get a thesarus and pick a synonym that suits you best.

I can't use 'curvy' without it being mistaken for fat and having to explain myself defeats the purpose of calling myself 'curvy'. I simply want to know where this came from and why.

Well-built.  Stacked.  Proportionate.  Petite with curves in the right places.

Again, it came from the right that people have to use whatever words they want to describe themselves.

Too damn bad
you want men to immediately know what you look like? PUT A PICTURE UP
I know, tough concept, right? do it anyway
or give them your exact measurements

other than that, since every word is constantly applied to different people there is no magic word, and never has been, that will describe you immediately (At least not physically)

Or, make up a new word, it wont help people know what it is you are babbling about any better, but maybe it will help you let go of this seeming resentment for those dastardly word-thieves.

Whether I am bigger or smaller I am always voluptuous and curvy. Curvy denotes shape not size. So I can use it wehether I am 145 or 200.

Exactly. It's based on shape luscious. Not size. So why are women of size (regardless of shape) known as curvy? I'm not asking for things to change since that's pretty much impossible. I asked WHY the word is used this way when, more often than not, it is not the case?

It's pending. What, do you skip over details on purpose? I said I don't have one up 'yet'.

i'm feeling pretty generous tonight so i'm going to give you some help. And i'm going to attempt to do it without hitting you with the clue by four.... You stated in a previous post that You have difficulty trying to connect with men because You don't know how to articulate how you look, right? i can understand that. However, i think the problem might go a little deeper than that. i read Your profile, and frankly you appear to be a demanding person. That, in and of itself, is not necessarily a bad thing. However, when you combine that with someone who is so focused on external things (cuteness, etc.) you get someone who is not only deeply shallow but suffers from terminal entitlement. Announcing to the free world that you are a bitch, gives you no free ride in this world. People are not automatically scared away because you are a self proclaimed bitch. i suggest therapy, but then i could be biased. i'm sure plenty around here would be tempted to recommend 2X4 therapy. Either way it's your pick. i hope (at the rate you are going) you are able to end up with someone you want.....and not someone you deserve.
Kali

I skip over details the way you skip over line spacing?
and "Yet" can mean anything from "My photo wasn't approved yet" to "Well I dont know I want to put a picture up but havent gotten around to it yet"
how about sending them a picture with your message to them?

Kali stick to the topic please.

Because if a big woman has curves she can say she has them. If she is large she does have curves. She isnt shaped like a stick.

I am so sorry this upsets you. Perhaps you should take the advice and post pictures so they will know what kind of curvy you are. Unless of course youre afraid to show what you look like.
