Gypsies or not, they should still get the full protection of the law, which doesnt seem to have happened. I would have thought after all the sectarianism in Belfast that people would be more tolerant.

I saw that on the news yesterday too, and I was wondering then, the Irish must really be the most intolerant people in our isles. Just look at the history, recent years and beyond, persecution because of belief, nationality and whatever. The irish I always understood to be easy going, but that obviously is not the case as is being seen. Perhaps it is their ancestry, even more of the celtic idea, a nation of brawlers who see any that come as invaders to be fought off. Maybe this latest group to be persecuted is just another excuse to get back to the old ways, best resigned to the past. But whatever descriptive word can be applied to those of that island, you can add intolerant, racist and sectarian to the mix. Those that oppose those words will do well to fight them where they stand. The world, and that includes Ireland is a world of migration, people have migrated away and to most parts of the world.

Aneirin, that happened in Northern Ireland in a Loyalist area not in the republic. If it happened in England we couldn't say it happened in "Scotland" now could we?

I sent the thread to my IE buddy- this was his reply to me: ================ Yeah! one of them was right - its just a bunch of Loyalist Thugs in 1 housing estate in Northern Ireland Having said that - racism is rife in Loyalist area's where they see themselves as "Brothers in arms" of the UK's BNP - British Nationalist Party, who want an exclusively "White" UK! There's very little racism in the Republic od Ireland & where there is - its by ignorant thugs & is in no way organised ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Agree? There are always people outside of situations, situations that don't concern them seeing the romantic view. Inside the situation, it is often very different. No one deserves to be terrorised because a minority can't get their point across in a civilised manner. And the failure to get a point across by lawful means, basically indicates the majority are'nt interested. Going around bombing and killing in lieu of civilised action is much like a disgruntled um chucking their toys out of the cot. Interesting in that all the years the UK has suffered at the will of terrorist action, they still did'nt manage to get their point across.

....in these fora you've made posts i've found interesting. You've also made posts i've found thought provoking. Some of your posts have been warm, humorous and, even, humane. This last post was none of these. It was based on a profound misunderstanding of the situation there and hinted at paranoia. You've attempted to justify terrorist attacks which killed people i know and destroyed the hopes of generations in both Eire and Ulster. You've done so by evoking the spectres of the Rothschild, the Crown, eugenics and Zionism. Please get help.

They are Irish and are racist, like it or not. Thankfully the police have arrested a few of them today. The truth is the majority of people in Eire and the UK, from any religion, are not racist.
