searincut -> contact ettiquette (2/12/2006 7:21:49 PM)

I mailed a note to a mistress,,, it said look at me,,,that's is,,,,she replied with "so what next",,,... I took it as a snotty reply and replied withsome "kind encouragement" twoards the benifits of using gentle coaxing blah blah,,just trying to see if there was anything there besides SARGENT MISTRESS, and i really just got worse..
Why I am approaching this fourm,is I need to know if "hey look at me" warrents a negitve responce from a mistress. The pictures were tasteful. A local Misstress and friend felt it was a snotty responce and warned me about possiblly getting involved with this individual,,,,comments please!

Frankly, I wouldn't have responded at all ~ those types of letters are typical of those who send out emails to EVERYONE hoping to get a hit.

If it's too much time for YOU to send a polite paragraph or two to start a conversation, can you reasonably expect a response?

"Hey look at me"? Are you kidding? First of all, I wouldnt dream of approaching a perfect stranger with the word "Hey". This word signifys the epitome of disrespect. *I* would not have answered your email at all, other than to say that my name is not "Hey". I believe that the Domina's response was appropriate for what you wrote. I am surprised she answered you at all. Next time you might consider a proper salutation, such as "Hello Ma'am" or "Hello Mistress". Leave the "hey" for the horses.

It would get a negative response from me. It has no substance. It gives me nothing to who is contacting me. So, if I am receiving 100 e-mails a day why should I respond at all?
Why not tell them something about yourself. Or why you chose to write to them? If you stoke peoples ego's you get a much more favorable response.

Hey look at me.

Hmm, sorry, but yes, a statement like that does nothing to warrant even a reply.

*sigh*

That's the trouble with e-mails and PMs (and posts).

We write them in a casual banter style. As if we are speaking by phone or in person. Such communication os tough with no inflection or expression.

I have found over and over in other forums that a PM is often NOT read with the same inflection or emotion with which it was written!

Take you initial PM "hey look at me". I know that you did not write it to be mean, or rude in the least, but with NO OTHER context to be taken with it, it CERTAILY could be read that way! YOur friends know you, and know better ... so THEY would not read it that way! But a stranger might!

Let's look at it.

"Hey" -- I am not even interested in your name, I am saying "hey you" instead.

"Look at me" -- I can command your actions, a perfect stranger, to look at me. THis is not a request, but a command. An imperative statement.

Let's look at how her responce COULD be positive and NOT 'snotty'

"So what next?" -- I am interested so far, please give me more info.

Now, these are JUST possibilities, I DO NOT know what was in your mind or in hers, just thinking these short, emotionless words on a screen could be taken many ways.

I detest one line emails for a first contact. I do not sit there and write three or four paragraphs because I am lazy... I write them because I want to give someone something to work with. I expect the same effort from someone contacting me for the first time.

First impressions are very important online. You have to use your own creativity to capture someone's interest. If the best that you can come up with is "hey look at me" then you sure wouldn't capture my interest. When you get a less than favorable response you should rethink your approach.

I have read it hundreds of times on the forums, on profiles and other places... if you capture the mind the body will follow. "Hey look at me" wouldn't even minimally detain my mind... let alone capture it.

IronBear -> RE: contact ettiquette (2/13/2006 8:57:23 AM)

If you wrote "Look at me" to me, I may have laughed at such a mail and I perhaps could have replied asking how much were you for sale for, needing to figure out if I could turn a proifit with a quick resale or a dollar or one \hundred renting you out to those in the market for such tit-bits... That may have been my responce or perhaps I may have replied politely "No thankyou"... Had of course you written something about yourself and what you were seeking and commementing that you had read my profile I would have give the matter more serious thought. Providing that you were not seeking an overseas relationship which would have demonstrated that you had not read my profile and thus were telling me porkies which would have certainly resulted in me breaking off all contact.

That's how i would have taken Her response...silly me...but then again, i never would of sent an email saying "Hey, look at me". Guess the reason for not sending such an email to begin with is apparent.

RavenMuse -> RE: contact ettiquette (2/13/2006 9:21:31 AM)

One line mail saying "Look at me" gives neither me or anyone else a reason to look at you. To discount you on the grounds of a lack of social skills possibly, but to look at you in a positive way certainly not!

If I was bored enough then I might look to see if the person has a profile, but even if they have, the lack of effort shown is already putting them in a bad light.

HouseofBear -> RE: contact ettiquette (2/13/2006 12:44:20 PM)

An email just saying hey look at me would have entered the delete zone very quickly, with a note to self to ignore emails from that person in the futute. Everyone has their own turns offs and turn ons when it comes to contact via the internet.

I think she responded nicely to an initial contact that wasn't nice or respectful from you. M
