Can things in this country possibly get any more stupid?

PETA wishes Obama hadn't swatted that fly

WASHINGTON – The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House.

PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

LOL... nope, they sure can't.

I can't believe that the media even mentioned that he swatted a fly.  I was expecting the PETA article to be from the Onion.  I'm really sorry it wasn't.

A simple case of PETA taking their mission statement to its ridiculous extreme.
Moving from Michael Vick and dog fighting to.....the surreal of admonishing the POTUS for swatting a fly is ,to put it mildly,a travesty and will do nothing but serve to diminish their message

It happened during an interview and it was on all the news channels, complete with a close-up of the dead fly.

When you have 24 hours a day to fill you have to report whatever you can get.

He even picked the dead fly up after the interview!  lol

This is the group that also believes that pet ownership is cruel. Unless they have changed their charter since I read that part of it.

Asherdelampyr -> RE: PETA wishes Obama hadn't swatted that fly (6/18/2009 11:02:58 AM)

Nope, they still believe that, no matter how many animals they euthanize in their own building
he ended the life of a fly that would live for what, one more day? ((Wonder if they have time for a mid-life crisis?))

Just one more example of what happens when you let morons make a corporation that doesnt have to pay taxes, they are the only ones with money left for stupid shit like this.

I suppose one CAN be further diminshed when microscopic, but who's going to notice?

LaTigresse -> RE: PETA wishes Obama hadn't swatted that fly (6/18/2009 11:11:42 AM)

I adore my animals, but PETA.........I just don't even know what to say about that organization.

Lucylastic -> RE: PETA wishes Obama hadn't swatted that fly (6/18/2009 11:15:19 AM)

While I dislike animal cruelty at most levels, Peta is just to OUT THERE on some things for me to take it seriously,
If a fly divebombs me multiple times, its obviously  got a death wish and if Im quick enough I will grant it.
But sheesh the media must be hard up to, havent they got the latest "speidi" intrigue to go into??ok seriously I dont wanna hear it.

I just saw the other post about sonic black holes(yeah I like that stuff too). At the bottom of the page there was a link to Obama s incident regarding  the ability to catch flies.A I didnt realise there was a live interview, and yes I found it amusing, but the link was more interesting

Personally I am impressed that he got the bugger. Flies are HARD to swat, they always manage to take off just before I smack them.   Very impressive indeed

Perhaps being the leader of the free world gives one superhuman reflexes?

said with tongue in cheek
All hail the Super Prez, The saviour, The Messiah, The One

The trick is to strike when they are rubbing their front legs together. Flys take off by leaping and they need all six legs down to do so. Striking when they do the leg rubbing thing gives you an extra half second. The two handed clap has a higher success rate then the single handed strike. For best results, bring your hands up a little as you strike. The fly will take off when he sees the movement so you need a little elevation to get him (to use a military term, you need to lead him).

I live on a farm in Iowa. We are SUPER fly killers here.

(for those not in the know......Iowa farms tend to have an abundance of flies during the summer)
