My favorite car wasn't even mine. It was an 86 Ford Bronco. I loved that truck.

My all time favorite car I have ever owned was a 64 GTO, 2 dr hardtop.  It had a 389, tri-power, with a 4 speed.  The serial number was 008.  It was such a cool car.  Dark metallic blue, black interior.  The main problem with it was the tri-power.  So hard to keep tuned.  But when it was, damn would it go!

Serial number 008? Cripes! Too bad you don't still have it. That'd be a conversation piece at the car shows. That was the first year they were made, I think. John Delorean was trying to come up with something to compete with a product that Ford had on the drawing board, something called the Mustang. Pontiac made some very nice cars back in that period. Saw a lot of them in the procession last night; some of the coolest cars there were the mid-60s and very early 70s Pontiacs.

I hear you. I think my second favorite car - including the Jag I owned for about 5 minutes - was my 91 Bronco II.

I loved my little Bronco Loca. That was a perfect truck for me. Totalled it against a tree a few years ago and bought a Subaru Forester, which I'm very happy with, but it feels like I sold out a big part of who I was when i went all respectable-like and replaced my rusty beater truck with a yuppie mini-SUV.

one of my favorite cars I never owned was an Audi TT convertible....

UncleNasty -> RE: I Wish I Still Had That Car... (6/20/2009 7:20:28 PM)

1961 VW Omnibus. Split windshield, bench front seat, sliding windows. Probably 2 hp.

1970 VW Camper. Pop top, sink, cooler, lots of storage, sleeping for two people that liked eachother. Helluva a performer. 0-60 in like 43 seconds flat.

Now I have a truck with a topper. Just something about a vehicle you can sleep in comfortably. If I want performance I go on two wheels, or in the air.

My first car was a '63 Mercury Comet station wagon.  One of those $400 cars.  Three on a tree, running on about 4.5 cylinders (my dad used to say the motor was so loose that I was getting 20 cubic inches for free!)  It was called the Tuna Boat, and was a nice lightweight wagon.

It went down in battle with a large Caddy driven by an 82-year-old lady.  She bent the frame, ruptured the gas tank, and pushed it halfway up the sidewalk.  I was sure glad to not be in the car at the time!

And the old lady was able to drive away after the accident.

The next car was a '63 Baja Bug with some weird aftermarket mods.  There's nothin' like a Baja Bug for driving on sidewalks.

For me, it was my first car. 1963 Chevy Impala SS, 327 with a  4-barrel, tuned headers, dual exhaust with cutouts, Powerglide transmission, original equipment spinner hubcaps. Wide tires, rockhard suspension, and the steering box from a 64 Corvette, handled like it was on rails. Not exactly a muscle car, it was built to drive like a sports car, and the only car I ever owned that handled as well was a 69 Jaguar XKE that I bought a few years later.

I loved that car. Bought it for 300 bucks in 1974, and owned it until some cop who was late for work lost control of her car in a snowstorm; hit me head on and totaled it. Broke my neck, which healed eventually, but driving's never been the same since I lost that car. I'd give quite a lot to have that ride back.

So. What's yours?

Don't care about cars...metal never gave me a thrill.

But....if there was one....it was....

73 Vega hatch, aluminum block.  Green exterior.

Chic with gargantuan tata's.

Karen.

1977....been chasing this chic (subtly) for years.  Her Dad (a graphics artist) actually made a business card for me...(something akin to hustling his daughter)....you had to be there...it was funny....

We're out on "lookout point"....cop comes by....we're easily 2 sheets....1 more to go....cop comes by...."so.....been here long?"....(no officer...just got here)...spies the beer in the back seat....30 some years back...."leaving soon?"....("wasn't planning on it")....asked me to step out....I explained to the officer that "I've been working on this chic for close to 7 months....gimme a break here...."

He said...."you have 30 minutes...after which I'm going to bust you" whereupon he took 4 of the 6 beers I had and dropped them....the other 2 he handed me....and said....."30....not 31....."

I gotta tell you....I have a great deal of love for the 70's.

I had a 66 with the tri-power and 411 close ratio gears...I was also the metallic blue... at night under florescent lights it changed to a cool purple. Noting faster in my town... with good rubber it would do 0-60 in 4.2 seconds.

I used to love to pace a vet in second… then blow them away like they were driving Grandpa’s Volkswagen.

5 to 8 miles to the gallon…lol…hard to keep rubber on a car that could break traction going to 4th gear if you weren’t careful.

I saw an almost exact copy of my car in a show a few years ago… the guy wanted 100 grand… I paid $3,600 for mine.

I'm tied for my favorite vehicle.  My current 2005 F150 is a pleasure to drive and I hope to keep it for five to ten more years.

The only car I'd really like to have from the past was the '65 Cadillac hearse.  That car drove great, rode smoother than anything I've ever been in and it was just fun.  I'd probably still have it had I learned not to race a car that big before I blew the engine.

I didn't think anyone else ever owned one of these...lol. I had the same "animal" in high school, I have no clue what the serial number was however. Changed the vacuum operated factory tri-power linkage to mechanical linkage from Mr. Gasket, which solved some of the; cough, spit, spit issues with the carb setup. Mine was a cream color, sort of a dirty white, with black interior. One of the coolest things about it was the factory reverb unit, which was actually mounted in the trunk (which by the way was big enough to hide a body in). You could turn the radio on and kick in the reverb, no one riding could resist laughing at "and now for the news, news, news, news. I have to admit however, these were not exactly the best handling of beasts, it kind of cornered like a log wagon, but in a straight line it would fly, once you got past the, free style tire burning event, takeoff. I also learned what GTO stood for with this car as well. GAS, TIRES and OIL! I ended up selling mine, with the clutch trashed and the brakes shot, for $200 when I went in the Air Force in 1973. Damnit, I'd like to have that one back.

My 2nd favorite by far however was the only convertible I have ever owned, a 1967 Barracuda convertible. It had like a 273 cid V8 with a 4 Barrel and automatic, wasn't the fastest thing on the road but certainly looked like it was. I put some aluminum slots on her with G 60s on the back...it had the LOOK. Bought it for $267 (it was an ad for best offer and I saw the paper laying on the guys table), drove it for about 3 or 4 years and then sold it for a couple hundred bucks, when I decided to buy a Vega with a 350 in it. OK..I have had too many toys, I need to get off this thread NOW....lol.

pahunkboy -> RE: I Wish I Still Had That Car... (6/21/2009 8:02:26 AM)

A decent car has to have a back seat - ....that one can lay down on- say on a long trip- tho a hatchback can work.

I go for durability.     Not too interested in impressing anyone. In fact- the old clunkers are funner. I can park anywhere when I drive a clunker!!

LOL... In 1971-1972, I had a 1964 VW Bus, which barely made it up a hill with six passengers inside.

It was a hit with the hippie chicks though. Or was it me with my shoulder-length hair, head-band, and bell-bottoms? Hmm...

Someone mentioned creamy hippie chicks earlier. Man, what nice memories that brought back... :-)

My Studebaker Hawk, I still have it 40 years later, its always the only one there when I go to a show or a weekend cruise.

Is that the car in your avatar? Cuz that is one very nice-looking car. I think I've only seen one of them once before, and I had no clue at the time what it was.

maletpeslave -> RE: I Wish I Still Had That Car... (6/21/2009 10:22:46 AM)

I see a lot of interesting cars here that I would like to own. I have had some nice cars, and some cars that aren't so nice that I still liked. However, I look forward to cars I want to own and try to not look back to the past. I'm an oddball, so I like odd cars. I would like to have (at least for a time) cars ranging from a Porsche 912(e), 924/944, Packard Hawk, Triumph Stag, Range Rover, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Smart, and even a Trabant (mostly to piss off Prius owners with my blue smoke), etc. Hopefully I'll be able to drive some of them for a time before I kick it.
