I was thinking about 10K car (Mini runs twice that).  If to drop all fancy things and treat car as a means of transportation it can be easily done.

That would depend on the trim level and features you get in the smart car. I spoke with a friend about the smart car just yesterday and looked onto their website....I believe it was 5 maybe 6 different trim levels starting prices were $10,999 to $20,999 and up.......for such a small car the highest trim level for that starting price of $20,999? No thanks

Nothing says you can't spend just 11k though.
