Just curious if any one watched Tyra today. I don't normally watch, so I'm not sure if it was a repeat or not. The show was called something like "Soccer Mom by Day, Stripper by Night."

Not surprisingly, Tyra was judgmental, referring to being a professional domme as "hardcore sex work" even though the woman was clear that there was no sexual activity involved in her job. She was also highly manipulative with the woman's grown daugther to get her point across, showing a clip of the mother domming a sub then setting the daughter up with questions like "tell your mother what you really think of what she does."

Although being a lifestyle kinky person is different than being a professional one, it still made me cringe hearing all the closeminded attitudes of Tyra and her audience members towards alternative lifestyles.

It's also ironic that someone who is so clearly a sadist and a dominant (one of the many reasons I love America's Next Top Model) would be so harsh on the lifestyle. She even said something at the end of the show like "today I'm the dominatrix." Try everyday, lady.

Anyway, I wasn't expecting anything different, but just wanted to hear what other people thought of the episode.

Why does any of this come as a surprise? The show is pointing out that there are still people out there who do not believe sex workers (even those who do not have sex with their clients) is an unacceptable profession. No amount of rationalization that will ever change their minds on the subject, so just expect that despite all of the phd women who go into sex work, papers written defending the selling of fantasy or sex, and claims that it is a legitimate profession deserving of protection, sex work will never be accepted by a majority of people.

Yup. I saw the program. "Isis" is the type of person that makes us all look bad. Her daughter was humiliated. But then all 'ol Isis' attitude was "I'm just gonna do me"! So sorry she didn't get a chance to be a kid when she was 18..because she CHOSE to be a "mother". She just got knocked up is all. Probably the first of her "wise" decisions in life.

However, I'm not with the go back to school crowd. She's blown it. Anywhere she goes now she'll be known as that a "dominatrix". Make a choice. But think it through first. She was hungry for money and she didn't care how she got it. Of course it's "for the ch*ld".

Thank Tyra for giving this person a free, nationwide exposure. I'm sure she'll be doing brisk business for awhile.

I haven't seen that particular attitude but I notice people like Tyra and Oprah (ugh..."Oprah") are not actually as worldly and open-minded as they sometimes like to portray. They talk down to people they don't understand, they act like fame is interchangable with wisdom, and they often will interupt guests on their talk shows to make stupid or unrelated comments.

But I think that's where it's important for us as a community to stand together and present our best-face-forward, educating people and correcting the myths and misconceptions. There are always going to be people that make our communities look bad but the goal should be to get the public to understand that they are the exception  and not the rule.
