Many of us who are being whitewashed as being insensitive and racist because we don't deal the extent of mourning which millions of die hard fans are doing is way off target. Yes it is tragic to hear of a human being dying, especially when that person still had many years left of living. The fact remains that a small part of us also foresees that his death will be so bloody sensationalized in the same way the deaths of Monroe, Elvis, Lennon, Princess Dianna, etc was. Now that is the real tragedy.

Speaking solely from my apparently insensitive and cold hearted racist ass, MJ did have a great talent as a song writer, choreographer, singer and as a business person. It is for these qualities which many of us will mourn. Maybe the best tribute everyone can give Michael Jackson is to simply mourn in private and not engage in a public travesty of sorrow and mourning over his death. I say travesty as that is what his passing is becoming now that he is passed on, his estate will be generating millions and millions of dollars of revenue from albums sales and everything which is now considered a "collectible". That is the real travesty and and perversion in my eyes.

Awww, Bear, I did not create this thread, to start in with the "race" card drama.
Many people of all races do not like Michael Jackson or his music.
Everyone certainly will not like every form of music or every musician!

I am ashamed to admit this, but:
My own father is not a Michael Jackson fan!

the shame and the humanity!
{He is certainly a Black man}

As far as the coverage being over the top?
No one can stop that!
We live in an era of papparazzi and celebrity worship and coverage.
Remember how they treated Princess Di and Elvis?
Bear, that ship has sailed!
All I can say, is THIS coverage will probably exceed over the top.
I have already been sickened by the picture of him being put in the ambulance {dead}, that will be on the cover of some damn rag tomorrow.
This is the era we live in.
Just make sure you watch my ass moonwalking and doing the robot on CNN on Friday, damn it!

The coverage is not going to stop anytime soon, I expect a lot of coverage for at least the next 10 days-2 weeks, if ya don't like it, don't watch it.

I don't really give a rat's ass if you liked his music or not!

At the end of the day, YOUR opinion will not change MUSICAL HISTORY.
HIS LEGACY WILL LIVE ON UNTIL THE END OF THIS WORLD!
Michael Jackson's life COUNTED, and will always count, and that is what he wanted,
and even stated.
MILLIONS of people all over the world loved his music, and at the end of the day, and as far as musical history THAT is what counts.
The KING of Pop, and personally I think that is a HELL of an achievement.

I watched a lot of the Princess Di coverage, but I did not feel any of the strong emotions, that I am feeling about Michael.

I am going to NYC to celebrate his life on Thursday, and I am just angry I might miss the moonwalking competition!
Damn it, Life just ain't always fair!

I would never expect someone that "doesn't feel" the love or the loss, to have the same feelings as those that DO, ever!
This is a personal thing, either you are a fan or you are NOT a fan.
There is nothing complicated about this fact, it really is just that simple!

I am traveling to NYC to celebrate the life of a musician that has been part of my life for the last 40 years.
I have never traveled to celebrate any musician's life before, and I doubt I will ever travel to celebrate another musician's life.
So again, look for the cute middle aged lady attempting to do the robot and the moonwalk in front of the Apollo on Friday.
The "cool" thing about it is, I am taking one of my favorite UM's with me, who adores him also!

If YOU don't love his music and many of us do, and have not been one of the millions that have been rocking out to his tunes practically non-stop for the past 4 days, of course you won't get it!
Now time to get my Sunday dose of some Michael Jackson music, I have not listened to any for a few hours!

All apologies MzMia...not for a moment did I assume you started this thread to play into the "race card drama"...but it has been inserted here(went out last nite and this is my first chance to respond).
Blaakmaan a question for you if you don't mind......have we really gotten to a point where objecting to someone based on a beleif of possible pedophilia activities....can be twisted into racial bias?
When Dr King dreamt of a time when a man was judged by the content of his character rather than the color of his skin is this not what he was referring to.
The freedom to express an opinion should not be abridged by the fear of being labeled a racist....as you have done here and on the other MJ thread....it is quite possible to have ones skin crawl at the behavior of a man....without taking into account his skin color...be it black or white...or some surgical approximation of in between.

smash the fricken TV.    The eye balls that pay the media- - it gets to the point of gawking, and cheapens the death even further. The TV covers it because we watch this and other nonsense-. we pay money for the cable, and worse then that- we give our time to the matter.

6 weeks from now- it will barely be remembered.     Disposed of.

civilization is not collapsing because MJ died.     It is collapsing because as a culture we BECOME MJ.

Anyhow- it is up to you how passionate you get over it.     Maybe a friend you actually KNOW, is more important?

Michael Jackson is dead... so is Farrah Fawcett... so why dont we have a million news stories about her? Where are her tributes and memorials and the crying interviews with lifelong fans? She must not have had nearly enough turmoil to rate.
He was an icon, yes. But some people are REALLY blowing it out of proportion. There are other people who die who dont get barely a nod, and yet he is getting all sorts of attention. I loved some of his music. I think he was a very positive model for many younger people back when he first got his fame. I think it was tragic what he did to himself later on, and the ways he set himself up for ridicule. But in the end, he wasnt a god, he was a man. An enormously talented man, but just a man. I dont understand why he should get so much more attention than all the other celebrities that pass on. I dont understand why the government is giving him a moment of silence, but Farrah Fawcett didnt get one. Whe wasnt nearly as newsworthy, but in her day she was just as well known.

I think mourning the loss of an amazingly talented artist is expected. I think people are going a bit overboard though, and shoving it down peoples throats. They run the risk of creating resentment for him rather thna preserving is memory.

Funny you should say that. I watched Farrah's Story last night and felt uplifted. She had grace and poise under horrendous circumstances. She lived her dying with dignity. I have listened to Ryan O'Neil and Alana Stewart since her passing and have been touched by their words. She will be an inspiration to many in the future.

I watch the Farce, they call mourning for MJ and think to myself... Here is a man who was objectified in life, and ultimately it contributed to his decline. In death he will be further objectified to the likes we have never seen before. Even in death, he will never get peace.

Post humoulsy, Farrah will be remembered for her strength and her courage.
Sadly, MJ will be remembered as a " Pop Icon" who fell from grace for many and died of self destruction at his own hands and at the hands of those whom he picked to use him.
In years to come Farrah's story will live on. Quite sadly, in years to come, I suspect, this debacle we are seeing since his death will be what is remembered of MJ. Even a majority his fans, when they think about him, will remember where they were when he died and what they did that day. They will talk about that for years to come. There will not be the conversation of being glued to the TV for the J 5 appearance on Ed Sullivan, where they first danced to Billie Jean, or the night they watched the premiere of Thriller on MTV. Contrast that with Farrah. Boyz will remember masturbating to her famous pin up, girls will remember getting a Farrah haircut, both will remember her courageous battle with cancer.

For me, MJ's death is far sadder. Not in a personal way, but at the spectacle that is being made. I know this will not be popular, but whatever legacy MJ should have left will be forever overshadowed by this charde we see now and the unending years of court battles, custody battles, tititalting stories from friends and foes alike, embarassing photos or videos, we all know are just waiting for the right price to be paid and every other ugly thing that can possibly be gained from his death.

Farrah's death is not what we will be telling our grandchildren about, MJ's death is exactly what we will be telling our grandchildren about.
Think about it..... if you were a John Lennon fan, like myself, what memory do you you have.... the night he was killed or the first time you saw him with the Beatles on Ed Sullivan ? Sure, I remember where I was when I heard the news, but that rarely comes to mind. Ed Sullivan comes to mind often and so many other great memories of the man's life.

Maybe it's me and having worked with dying people for decades. For me, there is nothing more personal and intimate than death. I have cared for well known people and I have cared for a serial murderer. Neither's death, to me, is greater or lesser. And both deserve respect in death. If not for the deceased, for the ones that loved them. I have yet to care for someone, no matter how horrific their life may have been, that some one wasn't in pain at their passing.

I understand human nature is not such in many cases, but it saddens me.

I had to laugh tho... you mentioned dying on a toilet seat, that is part of Elvis's legacy, that some remember vs his Hawaiin Show, for example. Exactly what I was referring to.

I've loved Michael since I was 12yrs old and I heard him sing "I'll be there"with the Jackson Five. He was the King of pop and incredibly gifted. Thriller was my fav album of all time. When he had problems in his later life I prayed for him. He always seemed kind and loving and sincere in what he believed.
I cannot imagine what his life must have been like being the quiet, soft spoken person he was with so little privacy and so many sharks around him.
I feel protective of him in death just like I did in life. I hope most will remember the loving, kind, super talented person he was and not focus on the painful issues, the accusations, the physical problems that plagued him in later life. Whatever was happening and did happen to him through the last 10yrs I am grateful for the many, many years of joyful memories associated with his music.
