Oh, and in response to the OP... ummm...this is the INTERNET.  Have you not noticed the scores of cowards who can only type what they would never dare say to a person's face?  Personally, I think we should all treat each other courteously, but not everyone out there agrees with me.

So true.

Yeah.  Fuck you.  [:D]  (Sorry, but *somebody* had to do it.)

To the OP, I'm guessing that what you're getting at by mentioning the domme/sub dynamic, rather than just common courtesy in general, is that submissive men are always complaining that they can't find a domina, so it doesn't make much sense to deliberately kill your chances with someone by being gratuitously rude.  And yes, I've had some utterly scathing e-mail from "submissive" men with whom I've had no prior contact.  I can only assume that it is some childish form of lashing out motivated by thinking I probably couldn't get her interested in me anyway, so I'll show her that I'm not interested in her, first.  Neener, neener, neener.

*Sigh*

Thank you, Dame Calla :-)

PeonForHer -> RE: Disrespect (6/27/2009 6:11:01 PM)

The one that got me the most was sent to a friend at a time when she was feeling particularly down.  He chose that time to make a few scathing comments about the way she looked in her profile photos.  It made me want to belt the bastard, to be honest.  People make the world an uglier place by doing such things.

Venatrix -> RE: Disrespect (6/27/2009 6:18:41 PM)

I don't know if there is ever a good time for a hurtful e-mail.  As much as one tries to shrug them off, random viciousness is almost always a bit disheartening.

In reference to your new sig line, compared to mine, does this now mean that I am tired of your cock?

No, there's never a good time for a hurtful email.  It's just that sometimes I wonder if these
ouanquéres can sense that one is down and choose that time to deliver a kicking.

Perhaps I'm just being cynical - such a thing is not unknown chez moi - but I think there are people out there who are perfectly happy to rain on your flogging if you indicate in your profile that things are going well.

By the way, "ouanquere" takes an accent grave, not an accent aigu.

And, incidentally, how would you know that a frog has a watertight arse?  On second thought, no, don't tell me.

lovingpet -> RE: Disrespect (6/27/2009 8:17:41 PM)

For the OP, I don't know what to say.  I don't get nasty messages.  I mean NEVER and I have been here awhile.  I don't know why.  I don't even get that much mail, a feat for any female on here.  I will say I need to write a new profile now and don't really wanna give up the seemingly wanker and scammer proof one I have now.

I really think people just like to cause trouble and if you are a person with very specific thoughts on a given subject, it is a vulnerable area of attack because they know they can get under your skin that way.  You have every right to your opinions and the intensity of them, but I think with exercising rights come the natural consequences of doing so.  People will attack, disagree, etc and you will either have to ignore it, defend yourself without sinking to their level, or get down and dirty.  How you handle it is your call, but you are open for business the moment you place thoughts and opinions on public display.

I wish people could be civil, even disagreement or outright anger, but not all are.  In light of your more specific question, yes, I think submissives that go about doing this do themselves a diservice.  I would tend to address an issue in a profile with an open invitation for discussion and give a small insight into my personal opinion.  I don't need to flame, attack, or be rude in any way.  Unfortunately, not everyone does it this way.  I'm sorry you are frustrated at this time and hope the situation improves.

PeonForHer -> RE: Disrespect (6/27/2009 8:26:11 PM)

Since I invented the word, "ouanquére" takes whatever accent I choose to give it, thank you very much.  (It would have had a cedilla as well, if only I could get my keyboard to do a cedilla on an 'a'.  No logic, I know - I just like cedillas, that's all.)

Thinking about it, the nearest I've seriously had to a condemnation of my profile was from a woman who said she'd not 'go for' me because I hadn't detailed my interests.  I had no idea, at the time, that there were all these little boxes to tick.

I was going to say that I don't understand people who, out of the blue, are offensive to someone in their opening cmails.  But I think I do.  There are a lot of different reasons - explained very well elsewhere by others - but, for me, it boils down to this: if I want to cmail someone, it'll be because I want to connect, whereas people who insult, don't.

PeonForHer -> RE: Disrespect (6/27/2009 8:39:42 PM)

I don't know why you don't get much mail, lovingpet.  You seem very warm and open in your profile.  I hate to be cynical - but I really do think it might have something to do with your frequent use of polysyllables.  I think the cretinous ones will have given up after the first couple of sentences.  In which case: no bad thing.  Maybe this is an answer for women on internet meeting sites everywhere:  make the language of your profile difficult.

For the OP: I do think one has to develop a thick skin, unfortunately.  People will be ugly because they can be ugly, with complete impunity - that's the nature of the internet.

lovingpet -> RE: Disrespect (6/27/2009 8:46:35 PM)

I will take those observations as compliments if you don't mind terribly, Peon.  And I was wondering if I can pet that frog with the watertight arse you all were playing with earlier.  Pleeeeeaaaaasssse??????

There're rude people everywhere.  If they say something to which I wish to retort, I do.  If not, delete.

My favorite one that still makes me laugh was...

Aren't you too old to be a dominant?

Nope... not really, I just have better canes! Come a lil bit closer, you're my kind of man, so big and so strong, come a lil bit closer I'm all alone and the night is so long!  hahahehe

Just wait until I have a scooter... you will have road rash!

Once, in a busy public market, I saw a woman in a wheelchair, and on her wheelchair was attached a little flag, sticking up about eye level, reading, "I swerve randomly and hit people."

Topic of Thought: Disrespect to Dominants

I wanted to bring this up in a way intended for discussion...and that's the topic of disrespect towards DOMINANTS on this website, especially as it regards elements of our profiles and journals.

Now...it doesn't happen to me very often but every once in a while someone will feel the pressing need (note sarcasm) to send me their unsolicited disrespectful opinion regarding some element of my profile or journal. It's usually submissives too, which I find especially laughable, though a few Dominants are guilty on rare occassions as well. I guess what I find ironic is how so many people pass around the "give respect to get respect" motto and yet they go around sticking their nose in where it's not invited to offer their unsolicited opinion. I suppose the internet makes people feel brave [:D]

Seriously though...what makes people say to themselves "She can't live without my snarky, rude, or even downright vulgar opinion...which She didn't ask for but damnit, I'm gonna give it anyways!" ?!?? LMAO!!

Yes, consider the life and inner experience of a person old enough to read and write, who spends their time and attention seeking out this sort of interaction.  Not enviable, in the least.

Some people are compelled to seek out or create a certain type of drama, without even realizing it.

allthatjaz -> RE: Disrespect (6/28/2009 1:48:57 AM)

Its attention seeking. Negative attention is better than no attention at all. Tell them to fuck off and they will probably have a good wank over it.
Just ignore them because thats all you can do with people like that.

Yes, exactly.  That was the point of my remark to LadyHib.  It just takes ten seconds to take your frustrations out on an innocent bystander.  Though I'm sure "innocent" is a word not often used to describe LadyHib.

Really?  I've only ever received one, advising me that my latest pic made me look like a slightly psychopathic, gay elf.  However, since I felt this to be an accurate and balanced observation, I didn't really mind.

I get lots of them, personally. I received one the other day, informing me that there is a misuse of terminology in my profile, and that obviously I'm not as smart as I like to have other people think I am. Did I change it? No. Why not? Is there a misuse of terminology in my profile? Yes. Why is it still there? Because I'm a writer, and sometimes writers like to play with the usage of words in sentences to have fun with the language.

But yes, I get snarky comments all the time. But I also get very interesting, fascinating comments as well. So, I could focus on the bad stuff and complain all the time, or I can ignore that crap and focus on the really cool stuff that comes through and be happy that I'm here. I choose the latter. Mainly because latters are good for climbing things. [:)]
