For me it is Van Morrison....I am interested to see what others say...what I mean is..no one comes close to their genius musically in your opinion!   For me his website is a disaster but i went to this concert and he has something special from this link i am showing and he is over 60 and been around since forever...  http://www.vanmorrison.com/

Wow..you hit it on the head...what would he have done if he hadn't died so young..i was thinking the same thing the other day about Janis Joplin....He could be my second of all time! good choice.... Top songs for me ..."Hey Joe" and "All Along the Watchtower", Voodoo Child" and "I Don't Live Today"  ps..and you are right..he was hot and i am not into black men at all..it was his way about him...just being honest!

Jimi Hendrix is the only choice as far as I'm concerned.  He was a farkin genius!!  I'm from Seattle where he grew up & a friend of mine told me about a party he went to one time.  He saw this guy sitting in a corner of the room off by himself, just kinda jammin on an acoustic guitar.  Charlie Ray went over & listened for awhile & then said, "You're pretty good on that."  The guy said, "Yeah, I've been told that."  'Twas Jimi.  I've heard his songs covered, but nobody can even come close to his brilliance.

Well, Prince comes in a very close second.

Someone to come in third for me is hard...it would be though either Led Zeppelin or argggh..to fuzzy to think now....we all think of "The Beatles" but hey they are kind of like out of the box and in a different league so hard to include them...

PS..I do love ZZ Top and Pearl Jam a lot too....but i am trying to go on volume of quality mostly

There are a few I can think of:

The late Freddie Mercury:  his classically trained voice could sing rock to the most powerful ballads.
Patti Labelle, Aretha and Diana Ross....the Divas of Motown.
Loreena McKinnett

Metallica.

They practically invented an entirely new genre of metal.
