I haven't tried it yet, but a friend recommended watching The Wizard of Oz with the sound turned down, while starting Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" when the MGM lion roars the third time.

This is one of the oldest and most often repeated pieces of nonsense I know of.   The Wizard of Oz runs for 101 minutes.   Dark side of the Moon runs for a bit under 46 minutes.   Even if you were to play the album twice, it doesn't reach the end of the film.

Read the sleeve notes of DSOTM; the album focuses on the pressures, the greed and the rip offs of being in the industry and blames those pressures for the mental decline of bassist Syd Barrett, whose illness is the subject of many of the songs (especially 'Brain Damage').   The Wizard of Oz is mentioned by no one involved in the making of the album and specifically has been denied as an influence by Dave Gilmour and Roger Waters.

Whether the movie was or wasn't an influence on the album is besides the point and doesn't mean that it might be entertaining to try. Barrett was the guitar player, not the bassist. Waters is the bass player. Guess you must really be a BIG Floyd fan? LSD was his undoing. There are two obituaries hanging on my wall, Barrett's and Bo Diddley's.

Then do Seattle adid listening to ANIMALS on one system while OBSCURED BY CLOUDS is playing on another while you have the big screen/widescreen of Eraserhead playes on the left and an equal screen plays Irreversible on the other.

THEN get back to us.

If you aren't busy being restrained in a rubber room.

Have you ever actually tried it?

I have, and it's eerie how not just the music, but the lyrics synch up with what's happening in the movie. I only got to watch part of it, from the beginning of the tornado to the scarecrow and co. walking off on the brick road. But it's the musical cues that really synch up with what's going on. Take a look yourself,

But for when it really starts getting good, I feel, is right here:

From then on, especially with Us And Them, it's almost a soundtrack.

I am in Toronto, and this plays at a movie theater once a month, late in the night, they play the wizard with the floyd sound track. It has a cult following. So there is something to it.

I have never actually done it myself, but I had heard many times that the music should be started just as Dorothy opens the door to see Oz for the first time. This may be new incentive to actually try it and see which start point works better.

Don't matter if it was planned or not....kinda like rain and sunshine...when the rain stops, the rainbow still kicks ass.
