Geez. Why not just jump to the root problem and mandate exercise and healthy diets?

It would help keep health care costs down too, not to mention contributing to better sex lives.

AND help beautify the world.

yes it makes sense for people to do this, but for it to be mandated?  please, get your nose out of what i'm eating and how much i'm moving my body.

Christine,

In case you missed it, my post was ironic--we were already talking about legal restrictions...six of one, half a dozen of another.

But your reply highlights one of the key causes in this matter and several other more serious matters in our society. People are all for restricting other people's actions/freedom/choices, but rail against any limits on their own--even when their own behavior indicates need.

So in this case, like petulant children, they thrust aside health, vigor, energy, well-being, passion and attractiveness to assert their right to do whatever they please, including their right to misery, sluggishness, and ill-health.

Of course it shouldn't actually be regulated. For starters, it would be difficult to enforce, let alone the freedom/rights issues.

But the assertion of "freedom" here is still fucked up thinking and behavior.

Well, so be it.

MM, i did get that, and i should have stated that i wasn't replying solely to you....just the people who think all things should be regulated, etc.  :)

This post reminds me of my eldest in high school. Girls had to wear tee shirts, no spaghetti straps, no shoulder blades showing but boys could wear muscle shirts/wifebeaters etc. Drove her crazy that she was sweating on really hot days and they weren't. She's happy to have found out then in the two years since then parity has been announced and boys there now have to wear tee shirts also.

Of course she would rather she could have worn a tank top.

I think men should have the fight to breastfeed  in public too (even though they can't) but I'm not asking anyone to start calling me "Loretta" [;)]

I imagine that's roughly similar to how boys have to wear long pants, but girls can wear short skirts, short shorts, or skorts.

LaTigresse -> RE: Men walking around with no tops on should be made illegal. (6/30/2009 2:16:47 PM)

I am sooooooooooo not stopping you from wearing a skirt ANY where you want to wear it!

I believe you missed the word "shorts."

Many schools, including the one I went to allowed short skirts for girls, *AND* shorts, figuring (I suppose) that if the girls were already exposing their legs, then exposing them in shorts would be no different. Yet, the difference came in the fact that boys couldn't wear shorts. Which of course begged the question, if they get away with wearing shorts, why couldn't the boys. What harm did shorts cause? And the answer is none. It was just one of the many ways that girls were coddled while the boys were not.

It's the same in the corporate world today, I'm afraid. I just left an office where the rules stated, very plainly, that women could wear skirts, but NOT shorts....NOT "capris." Yet women walked around daily wearing exactly those items. While the men, whether it was 50 degrees outside or 100, had to wear long pants.

I would, I don't know if I'd do it a lot, but at least once just because I could, and for the thrill of being able to.

Here in Ontario, It is legal for a woman to go topless, been like this for 4-5 years now. Truth of the matter is just because it's now legal, doesn't necessary mean that you'll see  women walking around without a top on. It is extremely rare to see a woman do so.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Men walking around with no tops on should be made illegal. (6/30/2009 2:52:16 PM)

Hey nobody says you have to wear underwire.* unless your dom is, then in that case disregard the next part.

It's totaly up to the women choosing to wear them, and if they choose to wear something they find uncomfortable, then they have no right to complain.

I'd think by the time men are men, they would have been weaned, but hey, if it won't get anyone arrested, sure why not?

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Men walking around with no tops on should be made illegal. (6/30/2009 3:13:35 PM)

=Who said it was confidence, maybe they just don't give a rats ass if they offend any one. Or if any one thinks eww put a shirt on. I know that if it was legal for me to go topless, that'd be my take on it lol. I wouldn't care if someone out in public didn't like me being topless, it made me happy and that's what I'd care about.

I admit I am selfish though:)

I guess not giving a rip about who minds or who does not mind can be a kind of confidence if ya look at it right.

You assume fat people are not passionate,  are misreable, do not have passions, and are not energetic and do not have energy and are not attractive. Now maybe they're not good looking to you, but that does not mean fat people automatically lack attractiveness. Nor do  they lack energy, automatically because they're fat.  Nor are they automatically misreable because they're fat.

Now compared to you, they might not be that energetic  or in your eyes not that attractive, , but it's really silly and pointless to make generalizations on what people are, if t hey're fat. As you seem to be doing.

So in this case, like petulant children, they thrust aside health, vigor, energy, passion and attractiveness well-being, to assert their right to do whatever they please, including their right to misery, sluggishness, and ill-health.

Of course it shouldn't actually be regulated. For starters, it would be difficult to enforce, let alone the freedom/rights issues.

But the assertion of "freedom" here is still fucked up th and ifinking and behavior.

Well, so be it.

sirsholly -> RE: Men walking around with no tops on should be made illegal. (6/30/2009 3:55:01 PM)

who said anything about fat people?

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Men walking around with no tops on should be made illegal. (6/30/2009 4:00:22 PM)

Maybe they were not talking about fat people specifically but I took the post about not sueing mc d's cause they made you fat, or   that it should be mandated that people watch what they eat and exercise, and then the comment about just like  petulant children they choose to thrust aside health vigor energy passion,  good looks, yada yada yada, and others mentioning of man boobs,  to be talking about fat people, at least partially. If they were talking about skinny people, the corelation to eating right and looking good to those of them who's looking, wouldn't be being made. Because it's not obvious when skinny people are not eating right and exercising, when they walk about topless and stuff, but it is the clear opinion that fat people don't watch what they eat or exercise.
