George Caldwell, the main character in the classic The Centaur, by John Updike. Updike actually relocated the entire pantheon of Greek gods to be the faculty of a middle school! Hummel was the crippled shop teacher, his wife was Vera Hummel, the subject of crude graffiti on the boys' room walls, Zimmerman was the principal, who was always making passes at students' mothers, etc...

sidenote: "Green Arrow, a DC comic book superhero, sort of an inferior version of Batman" Blatantly and HORRIBLY incorrect, and since I still get rotalty checks from the conglomerate that OWNS the trademark and likeness and copyright to Ollie (the name of Green Arrow) and have had to DRAW the fucker with arthritic fingers, you are completely and utterly "fucktardo" WRONG on that one. He's the DC Robin Hood, that's all he was created for, all he was ever meant to be, all he's ever been, right down to the "background" and "origin" of the character. He has "teamed up" with BattyBrainsLeatherBoyBruce, but he was never a secondary versionthereof. And I am not being "loyal" to anyone who makes $$ out of either character, trust me.
