ok stupid question but if there're trees, and they get removed..and in one of the trees there's a nest with little chicks that've veeeeeryvery recently crawled out of their eggs, the nest is moved to another place/tree nearby, will the parents be able to find it again to raise them? or what will happen to them[8|]

intenze -> RE: Chicks (7/1/2009 1:50:24 PM)

Usually yes, and that myth about touching them then their parents not touching them is exactly that.  They should be fine.

sub4hire -> RE: Chicks (7/1/2009 1:50:36 PM)

I believe the parents will abandon them and they will die.

afterforever -> RE: Chicks (7/1/2009 1:54:17 PM)

Chicks are pretty damn loud when they want to be, nearby should be fine.
Stupid birds keep nesting in a hole in our tree like a foot above the ground, then get eaten by cats. Now my housemate moves the nest up the tree, so far so good.

Isn't there some law about disturbing wildlife in its natural habitat?

sappatoti -> RE: Chicks (7/1/2009 1:56:51 PM)

Depends upon your location girly. Here, at my place, please feel free to disturb the wildlife all you'd like.

:)

Not a stupid question.  I've seen adult birds leave the nest for good if the chicks were handled and I've seen them fly right back after the humans left the area.  I remember as a kid caring for a chick that was abandoned. I ended up taking it to a wildlife rescue center.

A rabbit decided to build it's burrow in my yard, five feet away from where the cat door is.....yeah, nothing like screaming baby bunnies at three in the am

Federal law prohibits disturbing/moving the nests of most songbirds.
(The migratory bird treaty act)

[:(] hope they'll be alright..i think they're still too small to peep..they got fed worms n fell asleep..just worried they might get cold tonight and/or abandoned if the rents don't find them[:(]

DesFIP -> RE: Chicks (7/1/2009 3:37:00 PM)

Worst comes to worst, they'll be dinner for some hungry hawk chicks. Raptors and harriers need to survive also.
