Here's where we're headed, folks.

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: A glimpse of Obama-care (7/6/2009 7:08:34 PM)

More frigging CNN rhetoric. I -know- people up in Canada. I work in a cancer center, and have had the chance to work with both staff and patients from Canadian cancer centers. She doesn't tell you whether or not she was willing to travel. I don't know her situation, but I -can- tell you that it takes up to 6 weeks to get an appointment with some of OUR specialists, too.

As someone IN the industry, dealing on a daily basis with not ONE, but dozens, of patients whose insurance companies are deciding what care they get instead of having their doctors decide, I can tell you firsthand that this kind of rhetoric is going to frigging kill us ALL. We're going to die hemorrhaging money into the overblown insurance company pockets.

Crimeny's sakes folks... frigging THINK. Use a little logic and think things through instead of letting partisan rhetoric make your decisions for you. Ask people who KNOW... people who are IN the industry and who don't have anything to gain or lose from whether people are properly insured and can get the care they need.

GDS I am so tired of people spouting crap and calling it 'information'.

CNN rhetoric ? Remember that CNN is the liberal news network in the Country. If they don't like it ?

mnottertail -> RE: A glimpse of Obama-care (7/6/2009 7:21:37 PM)

One assumes then that it would follow that they would take liberties with the intent and disposition of 'Obama-Care' and would be equally as unfair in its enumeration.

Or are you saying that just this once, for this one instant in time, they are on the mark?

None of them are 'liberal'. They're all self-serving, financially dependent, sensationalist story-whores. If they're going to sell out, they should at least be worth the money.

There are 350 million people in this Country. The Dems. say 47 million are not insured, but they are counting 12 million ILLEGAL immigrants. Lets fix the problem for those who are not insured and leave the rest of us alone..This is not the job of the Federal Govt.

From your link:

Canadian Sen. Hugh Segal, whom we met up with at Kingston's picturesque waterfront, says his "fellow conservatives" to the south are dead wrong about Canada's health care system.

"The notion that we have some bureaucrat standing next to every doctor between the patient and that doctor is a complete creation, there is no truth to that at all," Segal said. "My family doctor at that time tried to get me in to see an endocrinologist and a neurologist," Holmes recalled. "It was going to be four months for one specialist and six months for the other."

You said "weeks" while the woman in the CNN story is talking months.

From the article:

Because the government system is the only health care option for Canadians, she says she had no choice but to have the surgery in the U.S.

Except the government health care plan being pushed is not intended to supplant the private options.

So...this story is moot in what would be a dual-option availability in the US.

You know, this is really easy to resolve considering we have a number of Canadian posters here who can offer their opinions of their own system.

And the average time for this chain of events in the US for those without healthcare would be hours?  Or?

cilissa -> RE: A glimpse of Obama-care (7/6/2009 7:45:37 PM)

There are a number of private medical centres in Canada as well, where one can opt for the procedures to be done earlier if they pay for it rather than let the health care system do it. I spend a lot of time in hospitals and emergency rooms and I have never had to wait a significant amount of time to be seen or cared for. If I walk into an emergency room having an asthma attack I am taken directly to a room and seen, before even giving my information at the desk. Elective surgeries may take longer as there are waiting lists, but I have been seen by specialists within a month of being told I need to and having my doctor do the referral and book the appointment.

I can't speak for everyone in Canada, obviously, but myself and my friends and relatives have never had issues with our medical system.

Yeah, well, we're "double-timing" right now, because profits and donations are down and they lost a crapload in their market investments, so they've basically a little more than doubled the number of NEW patients each doctor has to see a month to meet his quota... of course, that also means that he has half the time to spend with each patient. I think that I spend probably 3-4 times as long with each patient as their doctor is able to. I spend half my time with patients explaining the study I'm consenting for, and the other half answering questions their doctor didn't have time to answer.

Prior to the economic woes, the average patient took 12-15 weeks to see a PA handling a general surgical oncology clinic to get an appointment... longer to see the doctor (who saw patients only after their initial testing was done), and even longer in certain specialities where we only had one or two doctors working in the specialty, like endocrine surgical oncology.

servantforuse -> RE: A glimpse of Obama-care (7/6/2009 7:47:28 PM)

Why is it not the Federal Governments job to pay for health care ? Read the Constitution. I don't see it in there anywhere.
