This is a cross post I made on an unrelated forum. I am trying to expand my knowledge on the topic. This 'faq' is for my own personal gain. I am curious: Is the enjoyment I see in it just me or you relate? Why do/don't ya like it? Is it of interest? I left some blanks below fill them in. Can you suggest other resources or ideas I should add or must consider- I want more. Any bad stories/relevant? With suspension bondage the major types are: - Vertical
- Horizontal
- Inverted (Upside down silly)
- One can also be suspended from a 'Pillar', Cross or other secured structure - Obviously partial The joy is to see your beautiful pinata, toy or partner seamlessly floating a few feet off the ground. After each sting from any device you choose their struggle would seem to move them as if a cool breeze were in the room. The turn on or satisfaction for me is the 'endurance' the partner demonstrates. The commitment to submit as they are moved effortlessly through the air. I am not submissive so I might choose the wrong words. But, when in these situations surrender is necessary as struggle/fear would make the situation more difficult. Pending the top's skill positions can be awkward, immobilizing, humiliating or just painful. The skill with which a top hoists the partner into the air can be a personal creative expression - artistic; or is that just crossing a line. The body can be bent and held in so many ways then anchored in place with rope. This is enjoyable alone. However, to hoist the partner off the ground adds a completely new dynamic, no? Such an expression is only allowed through the strength and commitment of the 'canvas'. During the suspension I see no reason any toy in the box could not be used on the floating object. Clamp, needle, flog, dildo, wax. It is the same as on the ground but with this exciting new dynamic. The length of time it takes to prepare your partner for suspension bondage is enjoyable - right? The anticipation can be turned into excitement.. The ritual of preparing a standard same old chest harness can offer a thrill. The room can be quiet enough to hear a pin drop or preparation can be turned into its own scene/play as well. The directions one can go are unlimited. I see no reason this can not be used as a scene alone at the beginning of or as an end. A more skilled top can determine where the pressure will be: chest to have the partner on occasion struggle for air, the breast, thighs, legs, genital, the feet, the hair. Tension/tightness can be increased or changed because of their movement or struggle.. It can also be adjusted by the desire of the top during such play/scene. - A hook in both nostrils attached to a toe
- Hair pulled back stretching the neck attached to ankles
- Tongue barbell tied off to a chest harness or other piercing
- Breast to a foot
- Around the throat to a wrist or foot - don't move sweetie (I know best)
- A suspension hook inserted into a hole and tied off

As mentioned earlier this quote I ganked from the web agrees with me: quote:
"It(suspension) adds a heightened sense of vulnerability and inescapability, as the subject is made to feel that by attempting to free themselves they may fall and hurt themselves, thus also creating a form of mental bondage in addition to the physical one that holds them. Being suspended, especially in a large open space, also creates a sense of objectification, submissiveness and erotic helplessness for the subject, which can be erotically stimulating for them and for those observing them" Necessary tools of such trade: 1 or more Riggers (Top) * someone who rigs ships 1 or more Sluts: *A derogatory term. These can be purchased from any professional BDSM/SM furniture store. http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/dictionary/Scaffolding/ offers good advice on creating your own. Is there a perfect frame? What do unique frames provide? Risks: quote:
The danger most often associated with suspension bondage, over and above the usual risks inherent in bondage, is falling; whether due to a weak suspension point, faulty equipment or poor technique. Inverted positions are especially hazardous in this regard since a head-first fall of only a few inches can kill or paralyze a person. Less obvious dangers include nerve compression and resulting damage, circulation problems and fainting, and the recently-recognized harness hang syndrome [1][2]. Harness hang syndrome appears to relate to suspension with the legs below the heart, as in the case when someone is suspended in a standing position, with no weight on their legs. Extracting a person safely out of suspension bondage can be difficult if they are unconscious, or if a winch or hoist jams. Suspension tops will often work with spotters who can help get the person down in an emergency. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspension_bondage Your input as a Top/bottom is of interest.
