Status: offline 		so i'm sittin here thinkin, and it occurs to me that for a masochist Buddhism would probably be a great fit, since the first tenant is that existence is suffering.

Status: offline 		I realize it's a lot more complex than that on both ends.  But sometimes i just have odd thoughts and just toss them out there to see what others think.  If nothing else they tend to get conversations started

There are 4 Noble Truths of Buddhism

1. There is suffering in the world. It's inevitable. It's a part of life and death.
2. Find the causations of suffering.
3. Suffering will end upon ceasing all desire.
4. Desires will cease upon the following of the Eightfold Path

So as you see it's the ending of suffering in buddhism to reach Nirvana...not the desire for suffering which would be the antithesis.

Giving of self is holy because it sustains life on earth. It IS life on earth, the Goddess being the sum life energy of all women on earth and all they give to sustain civilization here.
It's a complex belief seemingly but really quite simple.
I miss the old roman hearth Goddesses like Demeter .

Status: offline 		The tenant is referring to life is not going to be always pleasant and indeed have hardship and suffering in it. That suffering in life has connections to other aspects of life. It is for a Buddhist to not stray from an enlighten path by trying to avoid the unavoidable and therefore form attachments and cloud ones path of understanding of life/enlightenment.

It is not meant in anyway to mean if you are a "good" Buddhist you seek out suffering.

O_o   how does Male submission work in that?   seems contritictory from how the male is generalised. a quandry.

Status: offline 		I had to reply to this one. I identify as both a Buddhist and a masochist, so this is an easy one for me. I do not seek out one as a result of the other, these two aspects of my personality coexist simultaneously and completely separately. Not to repeat what has already been discussed, but I do not think any Buddhist would seek out any form of suffering as a way to attain enlightenment, it's more of a matter of accepting that suffering will happen and you shouldn't waste energy trying to avoid it. As a masochist, it has to be understood that my idea of pain and someone else's are two totally different things, that I do not derive any kind of suffering from a reasonable amount of pain, on the contrary, as a masochist I feel a great deal of pleasure from it. Both emotionally and physically.

This thread was of particular interest to me because I have recently been thinking of the correlation between identifying as a slave and a Buddhist. Let it not ever be said that having the desire to "serve" someone in any way is at all easy. It takes so much patience. Being pretty new to all of this and in my unique situation, I am astounded at just how much patience is required. Through meditation, self awareness and acceptance, I find that my role as a sub/slave is not only easier, but seems completely natural. I have seen other girls on here mention that they're slaves and always have been, etc etc. I wonder how much they identify with Buddhist philosophies, practise Buddhism, and so on. I hope this won't be considered "hijacking" the thread! Hopefully it can be viewed as just an extension of the OP. :-)
