Aneirin -> RE: Paranoia ! (7/10/2009 6:34:34 AM)

You might have guessed from my posting history, I have a certain amount of paranoia about government and media, and I believe that is well founded, I simply do not trust any authorative agency where there is power, wealth or the possibility of obtaining either is concerned.

One can think themself into a box.   and yes- that can be bad.

Why did you write that?

And what's this about a box? What sort of box?

Why are you talking about putting people in boxes?

FR, after read thru

lol, to all you funny people . . . . . A sense of humor is an excellent antidote to worry & other shades of fear . . . ..

The difference I see with paranoia versus other degrees of the 'skeereds' is narcissism . . . . In my experience those who were suffering from what I thought of as a problematic level of paranoia (not justified by rational, exterior circumstances, not excessive caution) was that they felt that they, personally, were the focus of other people's energies in a way that seemed remarkably ego-centric . . . . .

That thought was what was going thru my mind as I read this thread, that & the Hitchhiker's quote about paranoia:

"You know," said Arthur thoughtfully, "all this explains a lot of things. All through my life I've had this strange unaccountable feeling that something was going on in the world, something big, even sinister, and no one would tell me what it was."

"No," said the old man, "that's just perfectly normal paranoia. Everyone in the Universe has that."

slaveboy291 -> RE: Paranoia ! (7/10/2009 11:12:26 AM)

Just because you're paranoid, it doesen't mean they're not after you.

DemonKia -> RE: Paranoia ! (7/10/2009 12:15:38 PM)

See, I was an obnoxious talk-radio host on the local community radio station, arguing politics with yahoos on alternating Saturday mornings for several years .. . . . & that's when I figured out the narcissism connection, when I was indulging in fantasies about the CIA putting a hit on me for talking verboten shit on-air . . .. . lol . . . . To this day I have a general policy that I both don't wanna make it easy for the Cocaine Importing Agency to exercise their ineptness in my direction, combined with a pragmatic recognition that it's more than a little deluded to think they'd care . . .. . .

So, yeah, they could be watching me, & it's kinda nice that they might care, lol . . . . .

Or, like, I've thought about finding out if there's a 'file' on me; on the other hand it would be so crushing if there isn't . . . . [8D]

I have kinda weird perspectives on things . . . . .

Could paranoia actually be useful to us in today's society, or are we to believe wholly what we are told and suspect nothing untoward?

Yes

Is it a useful skill to have the ability to be paranoid in some circumstances or is it a mental illness that needs stamping out ?

It can be both or either or neither.

Vendaval -> RE: Paranoia ! (7/10/2009 12:53:50 PM)

Uh oh...not the best idea to do self-diagnosis from the Net when you cannot remember hurting yourself in the first place.

So not remembering what I did. I started looking in those online medical journals, which is something I really shouldn't do. Well I thought I may have gout [sm=rofl.gif]. See I told you.

Lucylastic -> RE: Paranoia ! (7/10/2009 1:17:53 PM)

I feel normal now thank you ladies n gents...I think some paranoia is healthy, of course as with everything else there are extremes:)

Arpig -> RE: Paranoia ! (7/10/2009 9:38:08 PM)

FR
I always thought paranoia referred to unfounded feelings of persecution or baseless suspiciousness, in which case it really isn't a useful trait at all.

TheHeretic -> RE: Paranoia ! (7/10/2009 10:51:59 PM)

It's the Twenty-First Century.  If you aren't paranoid, you aren't paying attention.

HatesParisHilton -> RE: Paranoia ! (7/11/2009 1:35:04 AM)

see?  Now this Heretic fellow, I know i can trust HIM.

Whereas this Kia woman from the Demoniac Depths?

she

terrifies

me....

HatesParisHilton -> RE: Paranoia ! (7/12/2009 12:24:30 AM)

the need for approval makes me paranoid.

that's not in regard to the above post, at all.

it's about the frat boys and the cheerleader bimbos.

They need approval.

I'm just sayin'...
