“Politics has no heart” Napoleon Bonaparte to his wife Isabella He said this to his wife because he wanted an heir but his wife Isabella wasn’t able to give him one. Though he divorced her, he still loved her. However, he understood that all his achievements and goals would have be shattered in vein if he isn’t to get a son.   My question is: do you believe that politics has nothing to do with right or wrong but it’s about doing anything necessary  to uplift ones own position to accomplish  their ultimate goal? Napoleon knew he loved her; he knew he didn’t want to leave her, and he had to of known that what he was doing was selfish and morally wrong. Yet, he divorced her in order for him to try to accomplish his ultimate goal of making France the supreme nation of the world.

Napoleon didn't have a wife named Isabella. That aside, no I do not think that politics must be divorced from a sense of right and wrong. There are many examples of politicians who were guided by their conscience. I will admit that this sort of behaviour is rare these days, more's the pity.

People get into politics for ego and power. They of course believe what they believe is right, who does not, and some may be driven to get into a local race for a pet passion. But ego and power are the motivations for those who stick around and justifying anything to accomplish what they want has nothing to really do with right or wrong. It is why depending on which politician from which party has an affair or takes a bribe the other side is always morally outraged and the same side tries to blow it off only to reverse sides on the next case.

I think it is rare for an ultimate goal. Most it is about getting as high as one can go and keeping what you got.
