Pardon my Rufus but I wanted to share some good news for a change. This 1st part isn't it, it's just the set up. I've known Kevin for 25-or-so years. He's an Army vet and he is in a VA hospital with esophogeal cancer. He won't be coming back home. His family is there with him on a daily basis and his 1st grandchild is scheduled to arrive in August. Due to the cancer, the treatments, the infections, the brain legions, and whatever else has been thrown at him, Kevin can't speak, his vision ain't so good, and his fingers can't hit the right keys on the laptop that his son brings along with when he visits. So... I dug out a functioning laptop from the mothball fleet here at Casa Dave and found a free text-to-speach app. And then I went online to look for an oversized keyboard. BigKeys.com seemed like a good choice but at $160 it's way out of my budget. (For those of you not keeping score, I've only been back to work for 5 weeks now.) I found the "contact" link on the web site and sent them a message explaining the situation and asking if they could maybe find a spare LX model they could, uhm, loan out. That was Friday Afternoon. Today I received a reply that basicaly said: which color and what address should we ship it to. Those of you who are familiar with me from this forum know that I can pack more cynicism in a single eyelash than most people will know in their entire life. And thanks to the efforts of drug companies around the world, my emotions are locked-up tighter than the gold vault at Ft Knox. But reading the e-mail from Jon at BigKeys.com telling me they would be happy to send out one of their keyboards actually brought a lump to my throat. I don't know where the BigKeys keyboards are manufactured and right now I couldn't care less. What I do know is that an American company has just stepped-up for a complete stranger, at the request of another complete stranger. There really are are a few companies out there who still know the right thing to do when asked. So here's the thread part: Tell us about your experience with a company that reallycame through for you or for someone you know. I'm talking direct effect here, as opposed to donating money to a charity. I want to know about these companies, both large and small, because I want to buy/recommend their products and or services whenever possible. ~Dave
