Hey I just saw them, they were in the park earlier today!

That's where you tend to find him these days, used to be he was at the nearest Dead show, but alas that little bit of paradise is no more.

Wait a second.... I do not think this has anything to do with the OP

You're right. Not a god damned thing to do with the OP.[:D]

Will we ever have the age of the world right? In some space time warp physics theory, we might be looking at a 6000 year God timeline. Though the 1000 yrs on earth is one day in Heaven still doesn't help the theory all to well.

A few not so educated poeple back in the 17 and 18 hundreds calculated backwards every story in the bible to a point of possible creation. And now their ideas continue to hang on even in todays society. Crazy, just crazy.

Thanks, Ozzy....  Only if you would have read the thread.

BTW the people who calculated backwards, it does not matter how ignorant they were....  If the bible is true they were correct, anyone with a pad and pen can figure it out!

The bible never says how old the earth is. The bible being true has nothing to do with the earths age. Even if you gave each biblical generation one hundred years, we only have an assumed number of years for Adam and how long he may have had immortality before being banned from Eden.

Are you suggesting the bible might be wrong?

Brain -> RE: Proof The World Is 6,000 Years Old - End Game (7/27/2009 12:10:42 AM)

Does this mean there is no such thing as talking snakes? [:D]

By the way did you see that video about a time machine I posted? If you did what's your opinion?

This is the wrong post to discuss time travel.  However, there is no reason to assume it would not be possible.  We know space-time is the fabric of the universe - an absolute everything moves through(relevant too).  We know in this universe time has been omnipresent moving forward in a straight line for ohhhh say the last 15 billion years.  We have no evidence at present to believe this forward motion of time will ever change.  We know objects move through 4 dimensions when they travel(N,S,W,E and up and down if you like).  In the 1920 it was demonstrated as we move these directions we also travel through a 5th dimension time.

We recently discovered radio waves travel faster than light.  I am not sure that is relevant but I think it is cool so I plug it when I can.  We know that when X travels through space-time and approaches the speed of light(What is it 186 M/s or 640 million MPH?) time slows for X but continues at the same rate for the observer.  So, in this method yes clearly time travel is possible, it is not a violation of any known law to 'time' travel in this manner.  In fact this is how neutronian(spelling) particles reach us from billions of light years away.

What must be understood is there is no way we could go back in time.

**In the video it was suggested he wanted to find an 'alien' culture that had a device turned on for thousands of years.  If such a device existed it might be possible to enter it and go back into the time the device was powered on.  However, everything I have read about this guy, his quest to make this machine and find this culture are wackoretical (debunked, theoretical and wacky)

This might be an interesting new thread topic if someone is inclined - dunno

Esinn -> RE: Time Travel (7/28/2009 10:58:07 PM)

So, the earth is not 6,000 years old despite the bible and the video in the OP?

Uhhh, no we didnt.

"I am the undergraduate student (in fact, the only person at the moment) working on the hardware for this project at the Los Alamos National Lab. This article poorly represents what we are doing, and is very outdated to boot. John Singleton was not allowed to review this article before it was published, so it contains a number of falsehoods that would lead people to believe that this whole concept is pure quackery. I assure you, no radio waves are traveling faster than light. What we are hoping to demonstrate is a MASSLESS moving polarization current which sources electromagnetic radiation, creating a superluminal emission spectrum. I am currently working on our 72 element antenna and software which we will use to test the theory. If you'd like to know more, I can refer you to documents about the physics behind this (extremely high level stuff!)"

Just because people believe something different to us does not make them wrong and us right

Sorry estah, but I must disagree. Some things simply are wrong, no matter how fervently one may believe them. The Flat Earth for example. I know this to be incorrect because I have personally circumnavigated the globe. It doesn't matter how deeply the flat earthers believe in a flat earth, it is demonstrably a globe. the same goes for the young earth creationists' claim of the world being only 6000 or so years old. It is demonstrably wrong, on the basis of the various methods of radioactive decay dating.

To awmslave

Yes I was wrong, I had the 14 billion age in my head. However I don't think that changes any of my points, I think she said exactly what she meant to say.

Since the idea of a "Young Earth" is demonstratably wrong, please show me a single person, a group of people or any number, or a single unbroken line of people who has watched the decay of the carbon from beginning to end that can prove through that unbroken line that it is the length of time that scientists say that it is.  Strange, we haven't been able to measure that yet...

Hmmm, can't provide that evidence...No?  It's based on math models...and estimates.

Arpig -> RE: Proof The World Is 6,000 Years Old - End Game (7/29/2009 8:35:27 PM)

Actually you are mistaken. The rate of decay can and has been measured. The half life is calculated from that observed rate of decay. Your only possible argument would be to say that the rate of decay may have changed over time, however there is no evidence of such a change. Given the lack of any evidence of such a profound alteration of what is an observed phenomenon in all radioactive elements there is no reason to assume that such a change happened.
Can you provide any evidence (non-biblical evidence) that such a change in the rate of decay did occur, or even easier any evidence to show that the principles of radio carbon dating are incorrect?

Racquelle -> RE: Proof The World Is 6,000 Years Old - End Game (7/29/2009 8:40:04 PM)

Arpig, you just ask for so much sometimes.  We don't study Science round these here parts no more.  It aint of the Lord.

Early human relative or Mammals’ family tree predates even dinosaurs

Tree-dwelling vertebrate, just identified, lived 260 million years ago

The world's first known tree-dwelling vertebrate has just been identified, according to a new study. The tiny, agile animal lived 30 million years before the first dinosaurs and was a distant relative of mammals, including humans.
