LadyConstanze -> RE: Hats ? (7/14/2009 3:15:08 PM)

Maybe you need to go to Ascot?

I like wearing hats sometimes, but right now I have a problem finding some that match my shorts ;)

PeonForHer -> RE: Hats ? (7/14/2009 3:55:50 PM)

I totally agree, Jester.  Whatever face a woman's got, a hat makes it look even better.  Real shame that hats are out of fashion.  In fact, I was thinking of issuing a edict that all female users of this forum wear hats henceforth.

LadySweetOrSour -> RE: Hats ? (7/14/2009 3:59:53 PM)

Hats are hot in summer. Just sayin.

DesFIP -> RE: Hats ? (7/14/2009 4:02:24 PM)

Not everybody has the right shape head for a hat.

TNstepsout -> RE: Hats ? (7/14/2009 4:29:29 PM)

I love hats but they aren't really for everyday wear these days.  I do love the occasions when I get to wear one.

Venatrix -> RE: Hats ? (7/14/2009 4:30:27 PM)

I *adore* hats.  Now that my hair is shoulder-length they look even better.  I was just writing to a friend that I'm really not that difficult to get along with, as long as I'm treated with consideration and I get a really fetching new hat for Easter Sunday - something sleek, like a silk shantung boater.

LadyPact -> RE: Hats ? (7/14/2009 4:32:19 PM)

Sorry to disappoint, but the only hat I wear is My Cap, and even that is only on a very rare occasion.

DesFIP,

What on earth does that mean?  Only a woman could say that!

Actually, hats make nice shade, depending on the hat. My dear mother used to have some amazing summer millinery, with wide brims and lots of flowers, in fascinating colors. I -adore- hats... unfortunately nobody makes good hats any more (there were some fascinating ones in a show in 2007 by Hussein Chalayan. When I get the chance to go back up to New York, I'm collecting my mother's hats and having my daughters (who do fashion design) design me several Victorianesque outfits to go with them.

Your Capped?! *hugs* I didn't know. How very cool LadyPact!

AlexandraLynch -> RE: Hats ? (7/14/2009 5:55:35 PM)

Most of the time I go bareheaded. For the sake of my hair I wear a scarf if I paint or anything like that, or if I go out in the car and the windows will be open.  Mostly I wear hats when I am doing reenacting, but not this coming weekend. It's less that it is too hot for the hat, as it is that it is too hot for the seven yards of velvet overdress that goes with the hat. I am just wearing veil and wimple; way less hot, and the white reduces solar gain.

Lashra -> RE: Hats ? (7/14/2009 6:49:49 PM)

I never wear hats, I hate having my head covered. But if I'm out working in the sun I do put on a ball cap and pull my hair through it for a ponytail. But other than that, no hats for me.

My mother had some spectactular vintage hats.  It broke my heart to give them away after she died, but she was several inches shorter than I am, and much finer boned.  The hats just sat there perched on top of my head, completely unwearable.  Of course, I prefer to think the problem is a result of my having such a large brain, rather than being big-boned.

Huh! Only a man would say that!!

Of course the shape and size of one's head, hair style, face shape makes a difference in how nice a hat looks.  Silly man.

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: Hats ? (7/14/2009 7:32:18 PM)

I'm fortunate in that my mother was taller than I, but not by much, and we were, shall we say, equivalently fat-headed. [:D] (Just ask my father!) I also tend to prefer to think that it is an enlarged brain that requires a substantial brain-case, but at least my mother, though a dancer, was equivalently generously crowned. [;)]

You should try a topper, TN.  I reckon that'd work for you.

FR, after read thru

Bwahahahahaha . . . . .

I love hats, I have, like, dozens . . . . . I wear a hat pretty much any time I go out the door . . . .

Part of it is that I walk or bicycle or skate everywhere & I wear a variety of straw sunhats in the summer (it gets bloody freakin' hot here) & warm hats once it gets cold (we have mild winters, but I get cold really easy) . . .. . Also, I've shaved all or most of my head pretty regularly for better than a decade now, so a hat is very functional for me in whatever weather . .. .

But mostly it's just that I love hats. I do kinda collect them, tho' I'm picky about it . . . . I have to exercise severe discipline with myself in the thrift stores . . . . .

Most of them are casual (inclusive of a ton of knit caps & fleece cloche-type hats), but I have some special dress-up ones that only get worn once in a while -- a cream wool-felt bowler, a leather 'flat cap' (that one makes me feel like a gay biker, lol), an elaborately embroidered & decorated maroon velvet fez, & a green Soviet military peaked cap . . .

I'd like to add a burgundy / maroon top hat, & several fedoras in grey, brown, & some reddish / pinkish colors, all in proper felted-wool .. . . .

MistressRouge -> RE: Hats ? (7/14/2009 11:47:14 PM)

The only hats I do, are military or leather for scenes.

Much prefer fascinators, for that elegant touch [:)]

PeonForHer -> RE: Hats ? (7/15/2009 8:41:20 AM)

Nowhere in that extensive list of the hats you own did I see mention of a flowery Jane Austen bonnet, Kia.  Some omission, surely?
