Good, you should be alright.

My grandparents should be okay since they're on high ground...

Nobody on CM on the Southern NSW coast, is there?  They say Taz is gonna get it; I hope they gonna tell us more instead of fucking Hungry Jacks commercials right now!

Maybe that's a good sign, maybe it'll just be a swell, come to nothing much.

sirsholly -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 5:51:53 AM)

Oh God...please be safe!

i don't watch tv, thanks for letting me know!

HatesParisHilton -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 5:56:53 AM)

I thought wanders was supposed to be in Perth, but maybe she's home in Melbourne.

I'm coastal NSW but North, far enough where we should be okay (I mean c'mon, we just got our asses handed to us with the floods)...

This better be a storm in a teacup.

KMsAngel -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 5:59:59 AM)

KMsAngel -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 6:00:59 AM)

ladysos?

HatesParisHilton -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 6:02:56 AM)

NBN is still going on about fucking football with sponsorship bullshit, so WHY did we get warnings on 7 and then it's like there's nothing to worry about?

Nothing on ten, or ABC, fucking BICYCLING on SBS (Lord knows SBS won't interrupt men n sprayed on pants for a TSUNAMO, oh nooooooooooo).

Okay, if they can't stop sport for this, it can't be a massive deal.

KMsAngel -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 6:04:44 AM)

newsmongering for the sake of it? the net reports are barely there yet as well

Rainfire -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 6:05:10 AM)

Oh lord..... we have close friends in Tassie, right on the coast.  A close friend of mine is in Burnie, and Lumus has friends in that same area..... Me other mate is in Melbourne, I know he's safe, he's nowhere near the Bay.

I hope this passes like the tsunami that was supposed to hit California when I lived there.... this little, itty-bitty wave of maybe 6", so small that it wasn't even noticeable as a "tsunami" came into the Bay Area. It was supposed to be this huge wave, capable of millions of dollars of damage. People actually whined and complained about the disappointment and let down. [8|]

Time to send some emails and see what's shaking....

KMsAngel -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 6:06:26 AM)

latest out :

However, warnings were later scaled back to the lesser "marine" version, with people being urged to stay out of the water and away from low-lying areas until Thursday morning.

HatesParisHilton -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 6:06:32 AM)

Lady is in Melbourne so again she should be okay, assuming this thing is actually worry-worthy.

update:

7 just stated it was a 7.9 quake that started it but no land-damage expected, marine damage possible

(whatever THAT means; boats and piers I'm guessing)

"Stay off the beaches, big-ass wave activity" and such.

everyone should be safe.

Rainfire -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 6:10:41 AM)

Wait.... this just in.....

Apparently the tsunami warnings have been cancelled. See ARTICLE here.

However, I'm confuzzled... both Aussies and Kiwis say they've measured a small tsunami wave by ocean buoy and can't tell how big it might get. Yet they cancel the frickin warnings?

[sm=wtf.gif]

HatesParisHilton -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 6:19:22 AM)

sometimes I hate my fucking nation.

also let's not forget how fantastic we did with the goddamn bushfire protocols earlier this year.

I think we keep a slightly wary eye on this one.

VirginPotty -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 6:57:06 AM)

Omg, my prayers are with you all!  How terrifying that must be!

***Eta, I just read it's cancelled but please stay away from the beaches***

thank God

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 7:01:01 AM)

I hope that there is minimal damage... even a non-tsunami can have a kick and a half!

HatesParisHilton -> RE: Tsunami on the way for South East Australia! (7/15/2009 7:02:58 AM)

yeah, but the news still got their slice of the panic pie for a bit, didn't they?

Thanks for the kindly empathy, ladies.  we dodged the bullet for the nonce.

I just hope none of the volcanic stuff gets REAL feisty; New Zealand is pretty Vulcan in this regard.

But hey, we are all safe!  makes it a good night!

SMOOCHIES all round!
