MistressWolfen -> True Blood fans thread and discussion (7/15/2009 7:13:58 AM)

I love this bizarre show portraying an alternate reality in the deep south, shot in Canada with an international cast....but a question for other fans
What the h*** is up with that crazy arsed vibrating, clawing, eating, pig wandering woman? Any speculation on what mythical creature or diety she is? I had been thinking a primal goddess type but not any more. Thoughts on this?...

I think she is the avatar for some goddess. She seems to be able to bring out the primal urges in people thats for sure and she can make Sam shapeshift into his dog form. So I'm going for goddess/god. Especially when she was talking to Sam at Tara's bday party and said something to him about how friends can turn against you for some dead guy. Did she mean people turning from paganism to christianity? Just a thought.

Well, I know what she is in the book series, but the producers, etc. seem to be taking a bit of liberty with the cast of characters.  In the book, she is a menaed, and actually attacks Sookie, not Sam.  Has nothing to do with him actually.  I don't have HBO, but I did buy the first season on dvd, will be awaiting the second one anxiously....and DON'T ruin it for me, pleeeeeze?  OK, I googled Menead, she's a worshipper of a few Gods in Greek mythology, but the only real explanation was in a response marked "True Blood spoiler".....so, guess i wasn't much help there.

But really, if you can find them, read the books.....they are written by Charlaine Harris, and I found mine at Wal-Mart....she's got 9 of them out, or maybe 10....but it will explain the complexity of the characters, and some other details not covered in the series on HBO.  Half of me wishes that they'd stayed true to the characters....Amy was actually a witch that popped up in the 4th or 5th book.  Turned out to be a friend and cohort of Sookie.  It isn't Jason that gets all tied up with those Friends of the Sun cultists....actually, it's another character.  And I was bummed when they killed off Lafayette in the books....the series expanded on his character....I loved him!

Personally, I do love the series and the books...but I love anything vampire anyway.....there's a new tween series out called the House of Night series.....if you liked Twilight, you'll like these....up to 5 books now with the 6th coming out in November.  Different premise of how one becomes a vampyre...not vampire.....and it's pretty cool too.  I found them at Wal-mart too......they read fast, I did 3 in two days......P.C and Kirsten Cast are the authors...mom and daughter team.

I had thought she was a menead as well the whole Bacchus/Pan thing is very apparent but....ahh well artisitic license and all that

MistressR,  You can get the True Blood series books through Overstock.com as a package set for the first 7, I think, and I also got the others after that there.  A friend of mine said Costco had the set of books to for a pretty good price.  The titles are all "Dead....", the only indication that they are related to True Blood is a little tag on the front.  Look for the author Charlaine Harris, and you'll get them for sure.  Amazon has them too....but get the DVD set thru anyplace else OTHER than HBO......I got mine on Overstock.com for about 15.00 less than HBO, and that was with the shipping.

I have a friend who is TiVo'ing the series for me.....I hope she gets them to mee soon...I'm just dying to know what's happening!
