NuevaVida -> Best Concerts (7/15/2009 7:37:54 PM)

I saw Coldplay last night.  It was an awesome show!!  Full of energy, involving the audience, great music - - they even ran out to the "lawn section" to play a few numbers out there to the folks in the back.  I am still totally energized from the whole show.

What are some of the more memorable/enjoyable concerts you've been to?

Some of my other favorites were the CSNY2K tour (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Y2K) where they just tore the house down and played forever, and Paul McCartney (saw him twice).  I remember Sade, sexy and sultry, and Tower of Power - not a person sitting down.

So...do share - please!

Savatage (more times that I can count)
QUeensryche (on the Operation: MIndcrime tour, in Irvine, CA).  Leatherwolf (woohoo!) opened, and for some ungodly reason, Warrant was on the bill too (SOMEONE was wasted when they decided on that lineup!!)
Tim McGraw (more times than I can count)
Loverboy (don't laugh.. they put on an awesome show) several times on the Lovin every minute of it tour
Rush (seen them several times, but the best show was in 98 (? I think).. they did the entire 2112 album, as well as older and more recent stuff.

You're so going to laugh.

New Kids on the Block. Not too long ago. For real.

I admit that it was strange, but it was so much FUN! Not only was the music the same (I could STILL sing along to it) but the audience was great too... everyone was there for the same reason, because they SO had a crush on one of the NKOTB boys back in the day.

I'd pay another $40 to go see them again.

Esinn -> RE: Best Concerts (7/15/2009 11:54:44 PM)

No one ever taught me do dance, so I mosh..  I love being packed into a club with 400 people pressing in.  Trying to identifying where the countless spilled beer is.  Soon, 50 bodies will be crashing into me from every side.  They forget where the spilt beer is giving me the chance to knock them over, no matter how big.  Moshing truly is a dance form,  A time to let loose get lost in the moment.  It is controlled violence and aggression.  When someone falls most reach down to pull them up.  400 + people no way out insigh, you can't tell who just hit you in the back. The intensity when a brief fight breaks out heightens your senses.  Strangers ripping strangers off of people to avoid a serious fight - comradery.  Even different crews set shit aside..  I stay in the center until I get punched , knocked to the ground and stepped only to be quickly pulled back up even if not your will.  Leaning back someone grabs your shoulders then ankles -6 ft above the ground..  Eventually thrown up and over a wall of bouncers. When on stage 400-2000 people watching - insane!  Sing then jump down to be caught and to it again.  It is a total rush when there is some little bitch dancng with the boys..  Not really holding her ground but not afraid and doing good.  Strenght - connfidenct.

Madball was the last good NYHC
And
Drop Kick Murphy's

These were the last 2 memoriable shows.  I am not a big DKM fan but a massve place was packed with iw was less than standing roo.  1/2 way through the set 4 bouncers pushed through the wall of people, like it was paper, grabbing my by the throat, wrists and pushing me to the back then rushed me out to the corner.  "You are going to hurt someone stay out of the pit or get the fuck out!"  Later I wiggled my way in,  They all saw me and had no issuee, I toned down a little.  I lost my CredtCare but someone had turned it it  Walking out into the rain my legs hurt and I had a few bruisers.  Can it really get better?

RCdc -> RE: Best Concerts (7/16/2009 12:58:46 AM)

Numan, Numan oh... and Gary Numan.
You can't get much better than him live.

Radiohead are fantastic live.  Thom Yorke rocks it.  The tent gigs were a blast.

I saw Ian Anderson a few years back now, he was mega fantastic and far better than I imagined.
Eek... and for my sins - Chris de Burgh who is awesome live.

If you get to see the live show of War of the Worlds, then that pretty much is stunning as it goes.

We saw NIN last night and that absolutely rocked, although like I said, Janes Addiction were pretty 'meh' - only saved by Dave Navarros naked torso I am guessing.[;)]
Ohhh... and did I mention Gary Numan?[:)]

Lorr47 -> RE: Best Concerts (7/16/2009 4:43:15 AM)

Any Grateful Dead Concert prior to 1995 although we have a tough time remembering them for some reason..

DomImus -> RE: Best Concerts (7/16/2009 6:17:40 AM)

The three best concerts I ever saw were Judas Priest 1984, 1986 and 1988. I've never seen any band in any genre that could perform their material live as well as Judas Priest.

lizi -> RE: Best Concerts (7/16/2009 6:33:36 AM)

The best concert I ever saw was David Bowie '83, the Serious Moonlight tour. He was AWESOME!! Not only that but the backup band was the tightest group I've seen instrumentally. The whole performance was a marvel of hard work and awesomeness.

Other great concerts were the Ramones, B-52's, Social Distortion, and X. X kicked butt. Yeah, I was a big punk rocker.
I was a professional classical musician for a time with a symphony orchestra and gave some pretty good concerts myself [:)]

Lucylastic -> RE: Best Concerts (7/16/2009 6:40:32 AM)

OH The Dark, Im so jealous.....Numan LIVE? growwwwwwwls
Sad to say I havent been to any concerts since the late 80s

What are some of the more memorable/enjoyable concerts you've been to?

Oh my
The most memorable was the Escape tour by Journey...mainly because my friends and I hitched a ride from Cal City to downtown Chicago and back to see it ( we were only about 14 at the time )
Then there was the first time I went to OzzFest...it totally rocked.
And my first ACDC concert...it was their Back in Black tour.
And the first time I saw Hank Jr, the first time I saw Alabama, the first time I saw Bad Comapny/Ted Nugent, the first time I saw Foghat

LOL the list goes on and on...all first time's were memorable;; but these mentioned here, were the best ones that I have ever been to see.

Thunderbird56 -> RE: Best Concerts (7/16/2009 7:04:13 AM)

1. The Who 1976 with their *real* inimitable, irreplaceable, drummer Keith Moon! All of a sudden that night something was missing ... the next second Pete stopped playing and everything ground to a halt. Ox had melted down his amp head! About 20 minutes for the roadies to patch in a replacement. Nobody in the audience was upset, unhappy or pissed.

2. Moody Blues w/ symphony orchestra 1994 outdoor concert.

3. Dixie Dreggs / Steve Morse Band 2002 best $15 concert I ever saw.

Honorable mention: Jethro Tull. Even though Ian had fallen and broken his leg and performed from a wheelchair it didn't slow him up one bit. Only fault; no bass player ... the "bass" was played by the keyboardist.

worst concert: Kansas 2004 an outdoor free concert sponsored by a radio station. The band was tight and gave a good performance but the sound engineer must have been mugged and replaced by a deaf chimpanzee on acid!

samboct -> RE: Best Concerts (7/16/2009 7:20:14 AM)

Hmm, apparently my musical tastes are a bit divergent.

Some of my favs-

Debbie Harry (most of Blondie- Chris Stein, Clem Burke, Jimmy Destri IIRC) at Toad's Place in New Haven.
King Crimson (same place)
Motels (same place)
Pat Metheny (same place)
Todd Rungren (same place)
Joe Jackson (same place)
Robert Cray (same place)
XTC (same place)

Dizzy Gillespie (New Haven green)
Moody Blues (New Hampshire- open air concert)
Steve Miller _ Yale Bowl.  Certainly one of the most memorable- you had to strain to hear the band up high- the sound was turned down low.  Everybody begin singing along- it was actually a lot of fun.
Weather Report (trying to remember where I saw them)
Renaissance (with Annie Haslam)- Brandeis.  One of the first concerts I went to, but I really like their music.

Al DiMeola (Dartmouth)

Jimmy Cliff (with Peter Tosh-didn't like Peter Tosh)- Toads in Waterbury

Talking Heads (West Hartford)

I wasn't crazy about CSNY- the opener for them were the Fab. T-Birds and I liked them more.  I also saw Bowie on the Serious Moonlight tour in Hartford- saw Jethro Tull a few times -liked them, but I really prefer smaller venues and bands that aren't as slick.  (Bowie was definitely very, very polished.)  Charlie Daniels even in a big venue is fun- having met him briefly, he really does come across as a  Southern gent.

Sam
