Kronos Quartet at Memorial Hall in Cincinnati this past March.  I was floored.  I'm still floored.  It was literally life changing.

I love seeing live music - it's all about the moment and pretty much anything can happen.  Here are some of my favs:

Peter Gabriel, Tinley Park, IL
Peter and his daughter riding back-and-forth across the stage on Segways was downright sublime.

Joe Jackson, The Vic Theater, Chicago.
Chicago has always been one of Joe Jackson's best cities to perform in.  The crowd always knows every word to every song.  But even Joe was taken aback during "Is She Really Going Out With Him?".  When Joe sang "Look over there" the entire audience yelled back "WHERE" and he actually tripped on the next line.  Talk about feelin' the love...

Johnette Napatano - lead singer of Concrete Blonde - at The Abbey Pub, Chicago.  It was just her, a guitar, and a few 100 fans.  She told us the story behind "Tomorrow Wendy" and then proceded to tear the song, and our hearts, to bits.

The Pretenders, The Chicago Theater, Chicago.  It was a great show but I'm not sure if waking up with kidney stones the next morning was worth it...  On the other hand, seeing Chrissie Hynde flip-off a lighting tech for blinding her with a spotlight: Priceless!

Lyle Lovett and his Large band, The Chicago Theater, Chicago.  Still stinging from his divorce, Lyle's performance of "Stand By Your Man" was possibly the most acerbic, cynical moment in music history.

Buddy Guy, the XRT Free 4th of July Concert, Grant Park, Chicago, 2009.  Koko Taylor had just died a couple of days before so a lot a Blues, R&B, and Soul performers were in town.  Mavis Staples got on stage with Buddy and a 10yo guitar phenom and performed a 15-minute version of "Sweet Home Chicago".  I think the rain was just the City's way of mourning the loss of the Queen of the Blues.  In any case, no one seems to mind.

Ah, the memories...

~Dave

What a SHOWMAN!! (and I was grateful that none of my rocker friends were there to see how many of Barry's songs and jingles I could sing along with,.,..LOL)

I've never seen Peter Gabriel live... but the video of the Secret World tour is the only full length concert video that I can watch OVER and OVER and OVER (I can listen to the CDs the same way).  One of the most perfect performances ever!

Oh yeah...  Simon and Garfunkel at Madison Square.. they had a 21 night run.. I saw it 3 nights in a row (helps when ya have a friend working for Paul....)

Sir took me to see Michael Buble at the Hard Rock Casino last year...... (yes, my rockin' Master loves me that much)

Back in the day, a few memorable ones were Joe Jackson on the pier in NYC (Dixie Dregs opened), The Police at the Carrier Dome (1982- Sting was talking about the Falklands) and, also in 1982, at some small venue in Rochester, NY , I saw a little band from Ireland promoting their second album, October - it was U2. That was really cool.

But the one that still haunts is Harry Chapin in Central Park in the summer of 1980- a year before he died.

I saw Willie and B.B. King at an outdoor show in Michigan...  INCREDIBLE!!

We saw them together at an outdoor show here in Little Rock last July. They were each amazing but between their respective sets, they played/sang some together. Now THAT was cool!!!!

I was at the Limelight in Chicago (now a different place) where BB king was playing (1987). So out comes Phil Collins and Peter Frampton to jam with him! It was awesome!
