ORIGINAL: angelic Who Dun it? No butler's involved? [;)] Okay, I'll take a stab at this soap opera.... First, I'd have to wonder why your son couldn't do something to lower the noise on his car. Most towns have ordinances against noise, and he may be leaving himself open to more than just complaining neighbors. Um...how would you feel if someone parked next to your home, and drove up with a big BOOM from the car, when you're sleeping, or watching TV or trying to talk on the telephone. If it's THAT loud, you might consider how they feel, rather then defend the noise. Seems that the noise is too high if it's bothering others. We have a driver here, that doesn't even live on the block, that has an extra loud muffler and plays VERY loud music. It's enough to cause my windows to shake, and I've missed more than a few closing lines to TV shows, or news segments, when he pulls up. Should he be allowed to continue to disturb everyone...just because "he" likes it loud? (I'm with the neighbor's on this one. [;)]...although I don't approve of his methods to quiet it down.) As for the note, I'd say, in retrospect, it was probably a bad idea. Any trouble from this is almost expected, if ya ask me. The cigarette butts in the container....I'd think it was just that, until I read how you watered them down. But, if you use the container, and it's out there...is there a possibility that someone coming into your home just stashed their butt there, on the way. Perhaps the smoldering took time to fire up, and it was just an accident. I'd hope it was the latter, because vendetta's from angry neighbor's over a loud car isn't worth endangering other's lives, and the note, while vindictive and may make your ex hot under the collar, it doesn't sound like a motive to burn either. I'm gonna hope it was a hot butt that caused the problem. I'm also gonna hope all turns out well with your neighbor's and the ex- situation. I know of the fear that is attached to a senseless act of violence via vandalism. I have had my share of incidents, in Detroit, and have to say that my own fear outweighed the circumstances, and unfortuantely no matter what I or anyone else has to offer, you'll have to let time banish that fear. Take hold the the situations that you have control over, and work toward making amends with your neighbors. You have to live next to them for now, so why not try. K
