So. The new Harry Potter movie comes to our local IMAX Theater on the 29th. I haven't read any of the books, and this makes the BF (aka Master) very sad. He wants me to read all seven(?) books before the 29th! According him I'd "only" have to read 214 pages per day. Does anyone think I can actually do this?

I know it would make him sooo happy, but it sounds pretty crazy to me.

I routinely read a book a day, so yeah, it's do-able...

Reading is one thing. Comprehending and retaining another. Time to appreciate what you have read... forget it.
I doubt you reading them that fast will help you savor the movies any more. But I say orders are orders.

Reading the books that fast will not likely help you savor the movies any more.

But I say orders are orders.

Harry Potter is evidently a big part of his life, and has not been a part of yours.

Start reading as per his instructions.  Even of you don't finish all the books, after reading a couple you will have a much better understanding of the whole series.

Discuss the books with him as you go.  I suspect he will get at least as much pleasure in those discussions as he would get in watching the movie with you.

Funny the title you chose.  Usually when someone picks a title like that, it's to tell about the scene with three orangutans pushing eggplants into orifices that their Master ordered them to do.

How fast do you read? How much free time do you have? What obligations would you have to blow off to spend the amount of time necessary to accomplish this? If you aren't a fan of magical lit, and are likely to fall asleep, what happens then?

Does he want you to read this and be able to understand or just say the words passed across your eyes and were immediately forgotten? Is he hoping to foster a love in you of the books? Because if so, this is the wrong way to do it.

Sure, why not?  I routinely read more pages than that a day of both fiction and non-fiction.  I am wondering though, if you are renting these books from the library, buying them yourself, or if he is lending them to you?

Why are you asking us. WE don't know your reading skills or how fast you read or how well you read.

Personally I have finished the books in a day to a day in a half,  when I wanted to and that was even for the bigger last book, but I read very well, and I read fast.

I could do it, but I read a lot. Maybe the two of you could watch the first movies together before then.

I was informed by an ex Domme that the Twilight series would be an exceptional read.

Read the first one...bought them all (in anticipation).

The first book was good...not great...she loved them (tremendously).

Didn't read the second...don't want to....never will.

reading and to understand what you read are 2 different things.

what does he want...you to go through pages or really understand the story?

Start Reading. You will get as far as you get. It will be up to your Master to decide if that is enough to satisfy him. But if it helps. They are actually very well written books and are one of the few very rare series that actually gets better with each volume. If you have even a passing interest in fantasy or adventure type stories you will more than likely get hooked and thank him for it later. Which I think as Steven pointed out is more than likely the hoped for outcome. Either way you will now be able to share something with your Master than means something to him.  Which makes it a worthwhile task regardless of whether you actually complete it in time or not.
