Senator John Ensign belongs to a Pentecostal denomination, the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, that promotes a new health care paradigm in which both physical and psychological maladies can be cured through the casting out of demons. In the new approach, individuals can even heal themselves by exorcising their own demons, through a process that a 2003 Associated Press story characterized as "do it yourself exorcism". I would have to know more about it. Maybe he was going to perform the ceremony on himself and the other republicans for the common good. About the only excuse that republicans have left for their actions is that the "devil made me do it."

In an attempt to cross the aisle, Obama foolishly allowed the republicans to torpedo the stimulus bill with all those tax cuts for the wealthy; trickle down my ass. I trust that it will not happen again and he now is fully aware of the depravity of the republican party and neo conservatives in general. Well I have to get back to my reading about Uncle Joe in the hopes of learning how to erradicate the pestulance. You see I am not a Democrat. I am a little bit further to the left than they are.

The primary thing that struck me was this: From John Ensign's college introduction to the Promise Keepers movement, through the Senator's current membership in a Las Vegas church within the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel denomination, to his current residence in a house owned by Youth With a Mission, a parachurch evangelical organization founded in 1960 by Loren Cunningham - who espouses a doctrine of Christian infiltration of key societal sectors...... Personally, I don't want someone who believes that individual mental or physical problems are caused by "demons" to be anywhere near a position of power in any sector of society.

I will add very strongly that I am sick and tired of Republican hypocrisy and I am astonished at how dumb many Americans are not only to believe in God which to me is equivalent to believing the earth is flat like we used to 2000 years ago, but more importantly, how can people vote for these whack job crazy nuts? It is truly scary that people like Ensign are voted into office: it’s dangerous.

FR What a small-minded, perhaps even bigoted, way to look at a self-help ritual. [sm=sigh.gif] Ya'll do understand that "demon" can be a metaphorical term, right? Substitute the word "issues" for "demon." Just a different spin on "empowering" yourself . Call it Christianity, new-age, magick, or madness, for some people, this sort of ritual, casting out the negative in our lives, can be a transformational event. So what? Or are we all just supposed to line up according to our political preferences here?

I mean he went from fixing toilets and unclogging drains to giving speeches as a respected expert on the economy. And he certainly excited the Republican base.
