I'm genuine, also looking for genuine people. Having chatted to enough fakes to feed my cynicism (don't woory, no animals were harmed and no money changed hands), I now ask people to get access to a cam fairly early in an emai conversation. The aim isn't to get a free show, but at least to verify the gender of the person concerned, and perhaps that they match the photo they've posted. Funnily enough, a lot of people seem to lose interest at this point.

I don't even HAVE a cam ~ so I guess that I am a fake.  *Le sigh*

You mean to imply that you may not be male and that photograph may not be of you?

Oh well, I couldn't care less. I will simply assume that you are a nubile blonde - and everybody else also!

(That leaves me the only male in my universe.)

So you'd be happy to go on cam if your boss asks you to when you call in sick?

People are people. However fat chance of any sort of a relationship with anyone if you're not prepared to risk trusting them.

I would.

There are quite a few folks from the boards that I know IRL who can verify that I am, in fact, female and look like the pics in my profile. That is not the reason I don't cam. I consider demanding that I get on cam to verify something or other after a few emails to be presumptuous as hell. Anyone doing so gets an automatic delete/block.

Guess I can go sit with the rest of the fakes, now

Aylee - not having a cam doesn't mean you're a fake. It's just a less than perfect way to deter some scammers.

Rule - as perhaps the only other bloke in your universe, I'll happily buy you a beer or two if you're ever my way.

again, there are certain culls for avoiding "frauds".

does a person post on the boards?  almost no fraud has an open public dialogue with anyone (unless they are a Snarko with no profile).

is there anything more than "cooki-cutter" in their profile of they have one?

is there anything "non-Vanilla"?

most sheisters are lazy-ass punks and don't bother to post, have a real profile, etc.

if someone from the board with an even moderate post count messages you, with a reasonable profile, "fraud" should not be much of an issue.

Heh, fine, call me a fraud if I don't cam.  Not my concern.  I know who I am, and the people that it truly affects know who I am, and that's what matters.

Why don't I cam?  Because I'm too lazy to futz with hooking the damn thing up.  I've got more important things to do with my time than stare into some silly ball on top of my monitor, such as, french toast.  :)

Thank you, k0432. Dark beer please or the yoghurt called 'beer'.

(Finally! I expected that posting on CM would turn me a profit - and now it has: after 3559 posts, I have earned myself a beer or two. I am most satisfied. My next aim: to convince six billion people to offer me the same and to let me rule them. I wonder how many more CM posts that will require.)

Actually, it is a false sense of security.  Many successful scammer gangs keep women that are used for pics, cam, and phone calls. This is one way they bypass the suspicions of their male victims and set the hook before the inevitable request for money, which may come literally months into the "relationship".

Edited for missing comma.

again, how many scammers show any "personality" in more than 20 posts on a board?

There are too many frauds on this site: girls who are really either fraudulently trying to cream money off gullible men (eg my sister is very ill, please send money so l can get someone to take care of her and come to you) or girls who are really just tarts looking to sell online or real time for money. One first test is to check them out and ask to see them immediately on webcam so that you can check they are who they say they are. From the frauds this normally scares them off straightaway. It does not cause slaves genuinely looking for a position since they accept they will need to be checked out before being relocated.

Greetings peterjohns100:

Regarding your thoughts surrounding utilizing the technology of a Webcam to assure oneself of the identity and other physical characteristics of those met online surely in doing so does not resolve the entire requirements that contribute to the long term verfication required to further know another.

Clearly even in the face of being able to confirm the physical appearance and other physical aspects of another does serve to confirm a major concern you presented which is being a “fake.” Perhaps the use of a Webcam would serve to verify if an individual is pretending to physcially be someone they are not, at best.

However without a doubt the real concern is with the character of a person. Unquestionably physical characteristics need to be confirmed however this does not resolve the confidence of necessary traits that are required to eliminate an individual from being considered to be a “fake” in terms of personal integrity. Surely the method of utilizing the technology of a Webcam for certain verification purposes is only the beginning in determining other pertinent questions that need to be addressed when meeting another person.

There are no real fail safe risks. Unfortunately when it comes to the human nature and interpersonal relating nothing is a slam dunk. To think such equals self deception. Then again to not risk is to surely never know what you could have experienced or formed with another human being. Being capable of balancing and checking from the "get go" is indeed something that comes from the skillfulness gained with risking one to another, or rather human being to human being.

Without a doubt the objective of surety is not found in the technology i.e. a Webcam. The technology of a Webcam is incapable of assuring anyone if the character of another person is trustworthy. To solely rely on technology gives simply a pseudo sense of security.

Character discernment remains to be determined by human instinct or in other words a biological drive or an inborn pattern of behavior that is characteristic of the human species and shaped by biological necessities such as a certain sense or survival instinct.

Relying primarily on technology it is imperative to know that in doing so this will never eliminate human risking which is and will forever remain unavoidable in all human relating. IMO

I wish you well,
~Zevar~

See, I knew that.. that's why my scams work so well. I'm very detailed and have spent the last 3.5 years working this outfit for my own nefarious gains! I picked Portugal as my location because no one would ever suspect me. Who the hell would say they live in Portugal if they don't? ::chuckles:: You know what the real bitch of it all is.. there is a very real possibility that we'll be relocating (again) to Angola .. then I'm screwed. ::le sigh:: Ah well, I have already raked in millions off this place, so I suppose I'll have to just suffer and be known as a fraud because the likelyhood of me getting on cam is about 0% give or take a nil or two.

Yea, I would have to join you in the fake section also. I don't have a cam and have no intention of getting one. Not even after that really sweet domme messaged me and ordered me to go out and buy one. If you want to see me to prove I am female, you will just have to get off your computer and go out into the world and meet me.

The acid test for me is easy.  A real woman wants to get to know me - she is contemplating a relationship with me, and she wants to know what kind of man I am.  A scammer wants to hurry things along as much as possible.

And the idiot men that want to move things fast, avoid a relationship, and get it on ASAP are grist for their mill.

Well, frankly, I would go like "Excuse me, but why on earth would I want to entertain you by being on cam?" And I would lose interest, and a few people have met me and can verify that I am a woman, use my own pics, but doing that for a stranger to satisfy his curiosity? NOPE! Feel free to meet me for a coffee, but I don't particularly like cams, end of story.

The last time I hooked up my cam was to show a friend some new paintings I had finished.  He, in turn, introduced me to his new pet ferret (btw, that wasn't code for anything!).  I rarely use my IM and prefer to chat on the phone.  The best "reality" test for people I meet here is simple...I've learned, through trial and error, the best way to see if someone is who they present themselves to be is to meet them in person.  This is usually after lots of talking about more vanilla than kink things, learning what makes them tick and visa versa. Taking time and having patience while getting to know the person and not just their sexual preferences.

I have some long distance friends I've met on CM and we may only be phone/email friends...that's fine.  However, if I'm looking to start anything serious with someone, it will take more than a meeting via a webcam to wet my whistle.

Ah, well put!  While I do like to meet sooner than later (and why I tend to respond only to those within a day's drive), I see no reason to meet if we haven't exchanged several notes and determined we not only have things in common (inside and outside of BDSM), but also are looking for the same thing.

It takes while, but getting off online or getting rescued isn't on my agenda, either.  I don't wanna kiss a lot of frogs!  LOL

If someone even asks me to go to IM without knowing me or to CAM, I think he is a fake. I dont respond to messages saying ,"hi, I am a dominant. My yahoo is dom@yahoo. Ya know how many like that I get? And these guys dont even fill out a profile? I figure they are perusing perves.
