Depends on how you feel about orders to, oh let's say, Shemya AFB.

Wouldn't it be easier to just give the colonel a big sloppy kiss?

The major in question had volunteered for deployment to afghanistan. Till his orders actually came through he could simply change his mind. What he did instead was foolish and cost him his job and ended his reserve career as well.
