I'm not sure why I found this research so amusing, but I did.

walk a mile in my heels,

cindy

I see nothing funny or amusing about this research.  Do you have, or have you ever had, PTSD for any reason?  I can tell you firsthand, it SUCKS BIGTIME.  And in the beginning, the recipients of that sadism did not consent.  Consensual S&M and abuse are two entirely different things.

what the hell was amusing about it? The spousal abuse? Child abuse? Non-consensual captivity and torture? Perhaps the life long devastating effects of PTSD had you grinning?

Gee...i bet the PTSD disabled veterans have you rolling on the floor.[8|][8|][8|][8|][8|]

The OPs display pic speaks for itself..I wish I hadn't seen it...nor the link used supposedly for entertainmentpurposes.

sirsholly -> RE: to see it through a normal's eyes (7/30/2009 12:14:38 PM)

there are times i think i have seen and heard it all....then someone posts this link and calls it amusing.

DomMeinCT -> RE: to see it through a normal's eyes (7/30/2009 12:18:08 PM)

Here's the thread intro:

Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now.

What part about that thread do you find funny?  On second thought, that was a rhetorical question; don't feel compelled to answer, please.

Did anyone read the whole article?

DomMeinCT -> RE: to see it through a normal's eyes (7/30/2009 12:31:35 PM)

Yes, every word.

sirsholly -> RE: to see it through a normal's eyes (7/30/2009 12:32:55 PM)

me too.

God, that's just fucking hilarious! I laughed so hard, I almost died! Now, if only the people they're talking about were dwarves with speech impediments, that would honestly be the funniest thing since Hurricane Katrina, maybe even since the Great Depression. If only Peter Sellers were still alive, we could make a movie out of this and it would be a box office smash.

Yeah, I did. Can't find anything remotely amusing, given the context.

Starbuck09 -> RE: to see it through a normal's eyes (7/30/2009 12:43:06 PM)

I don't understand Cindy you say walk a mile in your shoes which implies you have suffered this type of abuse. And yet you find it amusing? Presumably if you do so then you are not suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.

It would be even funnier if they were all fat.

Monkeyontuesday -> RE: to see it through a normal's eyes (7/30/2009 12:56:54 PM)

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say I don't understand either; I'm not sure what the fuck is so amusing about being non-consentually raped. Been there, done that and it was NOT amusing, arousing or in any way pleasurable. This is obviously a very sore subject for me, hopefully with understandable reasons and you, Cindy, are a moron of the highest order. Go troll elsewhere.

I've had a few chuckles already and am  now prepared to sit back, relax and watch you be ripped to shreds. [:D]

hlen5 -> RE: to see it through a normal's eyes (7/30/2009 1:21:50 PM)

Between the choice of title, the OP's profile and pic (and her cm name), it SEEMS  as though she could have been one of the interviewed women in the article. I'm not going to judge her.

I don't find the article humorous, either (and the typos in what seems to be a professional research paper, bugs me too!!).

GrizzlyBear -> RE: to see it through a normal's eyes (7/30/2009 2:32:05 PM)

I read it.  The article implies that there is a thin line between those who do this (BDSM) stuff consensually and those who will do it against an unwilling victim.  Many of the examples given of things done to unwilling victims, are things that people here on this site will request to do or have done to them, on their profiles.  Perhaps that is what the OP found amusing.

The difference is consent, of course.  Those with honor insist on it.  Criminals don't care.

intenze -> RE: to see it through a normal's eyes (7/30/2009 3:19:38 PM)

There is a fine line here.  Many people, as GB noted, enjoy these things and dont have any problems.  They seek this life for fun.  I also know there are many people who seek this dynamic in order to feel SOMETHING because they are so dead inside from abuse, depression, etc.
This pinpoints some of the risks we all take in engaging in this type of relationship.  They can go wrong in so many ways, and some people who are attracted to the lifestyle are here for all the wrong reasons, on both sides of the fence.
It certainly gives me pause.

And so the dregs of humanity rears it's ugly head once again. I will walk a mile in your shoes...provided you walk a mile in mine and I guarantee you will change your tune.

Yeah, one would think there has to be more to her motivation than meets the eye. A little bit of an explanation would certainly have helped, though.
