It's not what they don't like. It's what the people they represent don't like. 300 million people in this country like their health care. 42 million are not covered. ( of which 12 million are here illegally ). They are hearing from their constituants to leave it alone..I think they will do just that,,

As dim a view as I hold of the average American's intelligence, it's still very difficult for me to believe that there are 300 million of them who actually like their current health care and are stupid enough to believe that just because they have health insurance, the health care system is not massively flawed.

A lot of Americans, yes. Obviously. But 300 million of them that stupid? Very difficult to believe.

all 300 million like their health care and are telling them to leave it alone?

lets see

Population:
307,212,123 (July 2009 est.)

Age structure:
0-14 years: 20.2% (male 31,639,127/female 30,305,704)
15-64 years: 67% (male 102,665,043/female 103,129,321)
65 years and over: 12.8% (male 16,901,232/female 22,571,696) (2009 est.)

and, according to your figures......... ( of which 12 million are here illegally ).

308 (rounded up)
minus
12 million (illegals)
minus
62 million (for those under age 14)

equals

234 million people.

now, i am quite sure not all those people live in the Blue Dogs districts....

its a far, far stretch at best... and a complete twisting of the truth at worse.

and dont forget the 30 million (per your figures) who cant possibly be happy because they have none at all.

my bad, i used 42 instead of 30 taking into consideration the illegals

Actually every poll I've seen has a sizable majority of Americans in favor of either single payer or a public option program. Which would be mighty strange if most americans liked their insurance. The fact is most americans are now, or will sooon be forced into, what the industry calls consumer driven insurance where you get some small amount of money to pay for checkups and the like along with a very high deductible catstrophic insurance plan. IOW even the insured will soon pay for virtually all of their medical needs out of pocket and they'll still be paying an insurance premium too.

I prerfer either of those as well to what we have now. One step at a time.

Do I agree with the current health care in place, no
Do I agree with what Obama is proposing/pushing so hard for a fast acceptance on us all, no.
But then again I did not vote for the man, nor do I like anything that he has to say or has done, entitled as I am, is just my opinion.
Do I know what the answer then is or should be, no....I dont think anyone does....I just do not think this is it......

Louve00 -> RE: Is This What America Voted For In Voting Obama As President? (8/2/2009 10:32:20 AM)

I think thats half the problem right there!  And you are far, far, far, farrrrr from being the only one.  Just one to admit it.

Hasn't anyone noticed that alot of people are acting like spoiled children lately?  They don't like their president.  They didn't vote for him, so as a result, they don't like him, don't like what he has to say, refuses to listen to what he is saying (whether you voted him in or not, its time to suck it up folks...he's here, in place and operating.), you choose instead to listen to people who want to misguide you into believing the president supports killing off old people, in place for supporting all abortions.  What rubbish!!!  And worse??  All you people who truly believe this ought to know that the people telling you these things know damn good and well that they aren't true.  (well, except maybe for Rush.  That poor guy is so afraid of black folk, he's afraid listening to one might rub off on him!).

I am not for one second saying you have to like the president.  I didn't like Bush.  At all.  I was amazed at the American peoples ignorance when he was re-elected for his second term.  But far from the mentality some of you people have allowed yourselves to get to with this new president.  It seems like people are either all to the left or all to the right. If you're going to fight, kick, scream and listen to everyone who has an agenda to defeat the president, my guess is, no one will win.  And we'll look like the sheep we're so afraid of looking like, when we start taking up with the people ranting things off the top of their head.  Eventually, (once you're actually following them) you'll find out the truth there too.  Or haven't you figured out yet that the grass is always greener on the other side?

I'm not here to argue this point, or any point, anymore.  Its beginning to seem pretty dedondant to me.  But damn.

We can only hope they torpedo the bill.

It is the biggest power grab by a President and goverment in the history of the US.

You people need to quit believing the government can take care of everything. I mean they have done such a great job with Welfare and Social Security and Medicare. And you want them to run your health care? Your all a bunch of lunatics. Oh yeah, and look at the wonderful postal service they run and how it is almost out of money but hey, old Obama will just print some more and soon you will have to take a wheel barrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread like they did in Nazi Germany.

Go read the Constitution and learn the government has no role in healthcare or a lot of other things they are doing. I want the government the hell out of my life!

I sit here at night and wonder what has happened to our America and then I read what is posted here by the libs and it tells me what has happened to it. Everyone wants everything for nothing, well it doesn't work!

Ask Russia, China, North Korea, Venezuela......oh wait a lot of you probably think those places are Nirvana.

I like this
White House invites CEOs to lunch... then makes them pay for it

Next time maybe they'll bring their own brown bags. President Obama is proving there's no such thing as a free lunch at the White House these days, if you're a corporate mogul.

Maverick481 -> RE: Is This What America Voted For In Voting Obama As President? (8/2/2009 11:15:02 AM)

Do you noot read that 77% of Americans DO NOT WANT socialized healthcare! I don't!

We have the best healthcare in the world and lower mortality rates for most cancers and other diseases than the rest of the world, but hey. Let's just throw that out the window!

Why do people in other countries not want us to pass this? Because they come here to get good healthcare.

Maverick481 -> RE: Is This What America Voted For In Voting Obama As President? (8/2/2009 11:20:48 AM)

You are absolutely correct we need tort reform. And one step further. Loser pays!

That part right there will get rid of a ton of frivilous lawsuits. I don't have a problem with being able to sue but I have a problem with some of the lawsuits that are frivilous and tie up the court systems.

RE: Is This What America Voted For In Voting Obama As President?

Here's what we voted for. We spend more money on health care than any other country, by a wide margin. Yet, we're the only industrial country without universal health care, with roughly 1 in 5 people not covered. Consequently, we pay for their emergency care rather than much cheaper health maintenance. We keep government at bay by placing the burden on employers, with burgeoning costs definitely weighing down employment and the economy. We complain about giving up our choice, when your insurance now limits your choice. We warn of socialism when we've been in a mixed economy for over a century, just as all the other countries.

In short, insistent pride and knee-jerk talking points keep us stubbornly following a senseless and ever more costly path.

ANY plan could be shot full of holes, especially once all the various "moral" issues get lumped in. The current "plan," i.e., no plan at all (beyond Medicaid/Medicare, where costs are skyrocketing and headed higher), is to do nothing.

Leave the Perfectionist Fallacy behind. Law enforcement has problems, but nonetheless we keep it, as it helps, if not completely. If you don't like current proposals, what's yours? If it's a Republican plan, where were they while they held power for 6 years? If it's not Obama's or any other for that matter, what's yours?

Or is it continue to allow it to spiral out of control? Something will have to be done--even it it's flawed.

popeye1250 -> RE: Is This What America Voted For In Voting Obama As President? (8/2/2009 11:58:22 AM)

I'm still waiting for all that "CHANGE" that he was talking about last year.
When's that going to start?
And what's the reason for keeping it on "hold" so far?

Musicmystery -> RE: Is This What America Voted For In Voting Obama As President? (8/2/2009 12:01:05 PM)

Not an apologist here. Just trying to keep focus on a problem that needs solving.

Surely you don't believe health care change is as simple as proposing and passing, get 'er done? As it is, pundits consistently note that he's pushing this faster than other Presidents (they've all tried something since Truman)--a year ahead of the Clintons, for example.

Lucylastic -> RE: Is This What America Voted For In Voting Obama As President? (8/2/2009 12:03:20 PM)

You dont think that health care reform to this extent is a change???
It might not be change you want, but seems to me it is change..
Hope you are recovering well Pops, good to see you back:)
Lucy

mrbob726 -> RE: Is This What America Voted For In Voting Obama As President? (8/2/2009 12:04:58 PM)

I think most everyone agrees that the health care in the US needs reform, and that some form of needed universal health care will eventually be in place.

My problem with what the president and the dems are doing, is the usual "leap before think" approach that government usually takes. What we DON'T need right now, is our version of what Canada has, the UK has, or any other country has, but a plan unique to the US, using all the intelligence that can be brought to the table. It seems that they are in such a rush to get something done fast, without really looking at the long term end result, that we'll likely end up with a disaster.  Throwing money at it without the thought, has long been proven to not work   My 2c.

(edited for spacing and added last sentence)

Musicmystery -> RE: Is This What America Voted For In Voting Obama As President? (8/2/2009 12:07:41 PM)

So what would that plan look like?

At the very least, it will take into consideration the special interests of health care business. They've already spent millions.

But enlighten us. Explain the plan. The one no one has yet come up with after decades.
