RealGirl4One -> A New Take on Weddings (8/3/2009 5:06:43 AM)

I love this idea, never witnessed anything like it personally, but watching this video I couldn't help but wish this couple happiness just for being "out there". I don't know them at all but a part of me just thought they were so cool.

What do you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-94JhLEiN0

They are pretty cool people, from what I understand. I don't know them either, but I do know a couple who were at the wedding. It's been getting a lot of media attention here in the Twin Cities, being a local story and all. I was so disheartened and disgusted yesterday when the Minneapolis Sunday paper had a front page article yesterday, discussing whether this sort of thing is even appropriate and whether it might begin a "troubling" trend. Of course, they interviewed a number of local ministers, many of whom reminded me of why I haven't set foot inside of a church except for weddings and funerals for almost 30 years.

"We should be celebrating the lord, not just ourselves."

"In the West, the connection we have with dancing is not typically a connection with worship. There needs to be a real guardedness about bringing it into the liturgy for that reason."

"It would not be approved or looked upon with amusement if conducted in a catholic parish."

I don't want to start another religious war in a thread that's about celebrating joy, but any member of the clergy who looks at that and sees disrespect for god and/or marriage is in the wrong line of work. They ought to be driving a truck. I don't normally even cry when I'm at weddings; I sure never thought I'd cry just watching one on Youtube.

Fuck em

I Thought that was AWSOME and plan on doing something like it for andi and I's 5 Year Recommitment Ceremony.

I think people need to fucking Relax and have a good time.

Weddings are STRESSFUL TIMES It was one of the most stressful days I have had. I think having everyone HAPPY and ENJOYING themselves is a wonderful thing to do.

Preists who want the wedding to be about God have forgotten themsleves that marriage should be a JOYOUS occasion.

Now that, was about the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. zaphira cried watching it.

edited to add:

as to the thinking that it was not appropriate; all I can say is that lightening did not strike the church, so obviously the Man above approved

I actually think it's wonderful.   Alot of people are looking to do something "different and distinct" with their weddings these days, and that's definately a great way to do it.

As far as if it's appropriate for a religious ceremony - that's between the couple and the officiant.

That is the correct way to start out of the path of marrage...best of luck to them.

kitastrophe33 -> RE: A New Take on Weddings (8/3/2009 9:15:47 AM)

I thought it was freakin awesome. And yay to the church for letting them! The church I got married at was so stuffy. We wanted to play michael bolton's "love is a wonderful thing" as our exit song and they voted no.

I know the whole point was to be unique and whatever, but I may have to copy that if I ever do it again...unless I get married by Elvis in Vegas.
