i think video game music is pretty catchy. i especially like music that comes from series like metal gear solid, silent hill, resident evil, or final fantasy. i don't know if it's me but music seems to suck me into the game.

do you like video game music?

I first heard my favorite piano piece in a game. In Resident Evil, you have to play notes found in the mansion to open a secrety area. When played, the notes turn out to be "Moonlight Sonata" a very creepy and yet very cool and fitting piece for that game.

i love the first resident evil. stupid chris can't play the piano though lol

Some game soundtracks are now on a par with Hollywood soundtracks. Take the work of Jeremy Soule (Particularly Morrowind and Oblivion) and Michael Giacchino (Mercenaries), it easily compares to major movie stuff.

Ever been listening to the radio and you hear a song that makes you think 'that sounds like (insert band here)' and then you discover it's their new single?

Was playing Universe at War and started thinking 'this sounds awfully Command & Conquer-ish..'

Lo and Behold, Frank Klepacki did the music.

I was just a little amazed that I, and video game music, had reached the point where I could recognise the authors of the music.

Overall, loves me some game music, from Doom (yes, I know, Pantera and so forth) to FEAR to Shadow of the Beast and right back to Comic Bakery..

You mentioned Silent Hill, and that's exactly what I was going to say. Specificially, Akira Yamaoka. I've had to buy the soundtracks twice, because I burned through my first set from listening to them too much.

It's a testament that the same music used in the video games is used in the Silent Hill movie.

it did make me quite happy that the silent hill movie had the music. i have the silent hill 3 soundtrack since it came with the game. that was a wonderful day *smiles*

I still have the sound tracks to MDK and Burn Cycle on my harddrive(yes, I know it's just tacky background music for both, but i like tacky background music)and thanks to fall out, I now have a whole list of 50's and 30's big band songs stuck in my head....
My only question is why is it that only skating games have decent new licensed tracks..

SirLost -> RE: Video Game Music (8/4/2009 12:01:45 PM)

I love the soundtracks of Silent Hill and Final Fantasy series, which are already mentioned.

Outlaws soundtracks make me feel like I'm a western movie character (Sanctuary and Sanchez The Outlaw are my favourite tracks. Sanchez The Outlaw brings an attractive gypsy dancer woman into my mind).

thank you everyone =D

Agree wholeheartedly about Silent Hill!

When I want to hear some music to kill by in WoW, I put on cheerful little number, which is from another game:

It's fun to do my rogue karate moves to it. :)

Let's not forget the Twisted Metal series when it inserted Rob Zombie music into the levels. The game itself wasn't the best of the franchise, but the music certainly helped make it a better experience, not to mention getting me to like Rob Zombie.

fadedshadow -> RE: Video Game Music (8/4/2009 7:48:02 PM)

oh i totally forgot about twisted metal!

MMagic -> RE: Video Game Music (8/5/2009 6:06:15 PM)

GTA IV Soundtrack is my current favorite

Lucylastic -> RE: Video Game Music (8/5/2009 7:09:17 PM)

Have to say Im not a big gamer, but video game noise &  music etc drives me up a freaking wall, the only time I ever listen to any interwebs or video game sound is music I choose to play aside from the game. I hate pages that play music, turns me off a site more than anything.
Yeah Im weird, I  know this.[;)]

I liked the old Super mario bros for snes. Especially the end music when you beat the game. Metal gear solid 3 had some great music. Very good music for sneaking up to someone and choking the shit out of them. And the music for the battle with the boss is the best. I used to like the tomb raider series. Things had a habit of just suddenly happening. Some my favorites come off of final fantasy vii, final fantasy x2, and chrono trigger.

RCdc -> RE: Video Game Music (8/6/2009 6:24:56 AM)

Silent Hill and FF are very cool.
I am also a fan of SSX (for my sins) -  and BurnOut Revenge.  DJ Atomica rocks! *cheesy grin*
I LOVE Jet Set Radio Future soundtrack.
And I like the music used on Fallout3 and Bioshock.
Call of Duty WaW demo/preview music isn't bad.

And of course, theres Guitar Hero and Rock Band...[;)]
