Willbeur what you're saying is not quite right. The I.R.A. believed that through the use of their military they could reunify ireland. When they realised they could not achieve this they came to the negotiating table with acceptable terms. Devolvement of power is a process that had been happening in the U.K. for some time just like in Scotland and Wales. Direct rule from London is something that Britian did not need or want as in the case with the other countries of the kingdom. What was unacceptable was the loss of Northern Ireland which wished to remain Brtish to the Republic. While the I.R.A. had this as their objective their was n o negotiation and the war continued. After the I.R.A. deemed their long war a failure then they changed thedemands to ones that were favourable to the British government and there could be negotiation.

It strains credulity to think that the midget dictator would have rolled over for a photo-op, though.
I don't know about that, the North Koreans told the US before the trip that they would release the women if Clinton made the trip, they turned down Gore and specified Clinton....why might that be? Obviously having Bill come to him cap in hand so to speak meant something special to Kim. Clinton was POTUS the first time the NKs were forced to back down over nukes, so it is probably some sort of twisted revenge thing.

Nice theory..if NK had actually backed down on nukes, instead of taking everything we offered, not backing down a bit, and Clinton not following up with sanctions.

More likely he wanted to parade around his POTUS pet who he so totally owned.

Tals -> RE: Clinton, Obama, Reporters and North Korea (8/8/2009 8:08:33 PM)

I expect NK got something nice out of the deal.  And the two women may have brought it on themselves ( I don't know).  However for now, we should all just be happy that we got our girls back alive and in one piece.

Yeah, that works as well

I am glad the reporters are free. Clinton was born to do this job. Who better than Slick Willy to send into a terrorist nation to pick up 2 women?
