Very sad. I enjoyed the hell out of most of his movies.

Being a different generation than y'all, my exposure was more to taking my son to Home Alone, and then watching the video ...over and over and over again. RIP

wow, that is a shocker.  I saw "Breakfast Club" in the theatre, still a teenager, for goodness sake.  and I love "She's Having A Baby"...

rest in peace, Mr. Hughes...

I actually bought The Breakfast Club for the Things to watch.  They love it.  I loved all of John Hughes' films.  They remind me of some of the best times of my high school years.

I knew I was getting older when I was dating a gal a couple of years ago with a 14 year old son. We were watching AMC, and The Breakfast Club came on. I said casually, I had such a crush on Molly Ringwald. She said, what teenaged boy in the 80's didn't? We both laughed. Her son said, "Who is Molly Ringwald." I felt so old. He contributed to me feeling old when later I overheard him talking to his gal pal about an "Emo" at their school. I asked, "What's an Emo?" *sighs*

Might I suggest renting Not Another Teen Movie?  It is a wonderful spoof of all those teen movies, and the generation of movies his creations inspired.  It even has Molly Ringwald....

God knows I couldn't sit through any of his movies again.
