MHOO314 -> Trust (2/21/2006 7:03:02 PM)

I have seen this word batted about in posts, " I trust Master", " I trust the use of the xxx toy", " I trust..."

but what do we mean by trust? what is it truely? What does it mean when we say

" I trust you..."

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Trust (2/21/2006 7:05:47 PM)

To me it means "I'm making a leap of faith that you will fulfill this expectation I have made of you."

That's why having realistic and mutually understood expectations are so important.

foxglove716 -> RE: Trust (2/21/2006 7:06:58 PM)

Trust to me means knowing someone will act with my best interest in mind. It means knowing that my partner knows me well enough to know my position. It means having the freedom to let my mind roam elsewhere (or nowhere [:D]). Part of trust has to be aquired through experience, part of trust is instantaneous through empathy.

Hmm, oh my...an actual think post.

For me...when I say I trust my partner, it means literally that I trust him not to INTENTIONALLY cause me physical, mental, or emotional LASTING harm. Notice I said INTENTIONAL.

Sometimes things happen that go wrong, and it's no one's fault, so I don't see those as a betrayal of trust.

slavejali -> RE: Trust (2/21/2006 7:12:38 PM)

Trust to me is having faith in

1: Masters knowledge and ability to put that knowledge into action
2: Masters word.
3. Masters approach to me.
4. Masters faith in me.
5. Masters commitment to me.

But...if things go wrong "big enough" or "often enough" even unintentionally, it will corrode your trust. Expectations need to be met consistently in order for trust to remain strong.

Yes, but then I would no longer look at it as unintentional behavior. I would like to think that if I place that kind of trust in someone, that I would know them well enough to be able to spot little things like that. Of course, our own idea of 'big enough' or 'often enough' will probably differ. For example, one time during knife play I jerked and ended up with 27 stitches down my side. Unintentional, it was no one's fault, and not something that I thought was 'big enough' to break my trust.

ropesubby39 -> RE: Trust (2/21/2006 7:40:07 PM)

For me when i say i trust my Master, its knowing He would never hurt me intentionally, that He always do things to my best interests even when sometimes i dont see it right away.

I just trust Him with my life, this is how much i trust Him and that He fulfills all my desires and vice-versa.

Exactly...it wouldnt be accidental if happens over and over.
I know that W/we all have accidents(poor thing must have hurt like hell,the cut I mean).
Does that mean W/we stop seeing that Dom/me,no just move on get a bandaid and realize shit happens.
I would be concerned if the submissive was hurt and the Dominant had no concern.I wouldnt be trusing that person at all.Chances are I wouldnt be there in the 1st place.

Sometimes you take a leap of Faith....Sometimes you listen to your gut saying run away.

It means i have no doubt that surrendering myself over to him is for the best. It means i have no concerns that he will damage me. It means i know his decisions about me are better than mine were. It means i sleep peacefully at night knowing he owns my life.

Trust is like drinking too much.

While you're doing it, it feels right ... but in the morning, you usually find barf on your favorite shoes.

For me, it's really simple.. it means I believe you and I believe in you.

angelic -> RE: Trust (2/21/2006 10:14:19 PM)

trust to me nowadays is illusive..

truesub4u -> RE: Trust (2/21/2006 10:18:54 PM)

There's so many different forms of trust floating around out there. It's hard to pinpoint for me.. just what trust means to me... it depends on what i'm being ask to trust... my Master... yes.. most of the times... still building on that.. so can't say 100%

My kids... not always.. they're teenagers... LOL

My parents... yeah... to know they will always be honest with me. Even if I don't like it.

Petruchio.... yeah.. to be a smartass most the time... LOL

Government.......... HELL NO!!!

So it all depends on what I'm being asked to lay trust in at the time.

mmmmm, very good thread, thank you for making me think.

I trust different people in my life on different levels. There are people that I trust with all of me and people that I trust with my shoes. Usually I trust that people will behave in exactly the manner that they have behaved in the past. Sometimes when there is no real basis or past relationship, I take a leap of faith and trust someone on their word.

Trust is something I give to someone and hope that it's returned to me in the same or better condition than which it was given. It's not something that I take lightly, and I usually am more than a bit aprehensive. Conversely, I am quite careful when someone places their trust in me. I'm in a position on a regular basis where I'm trusted with very personal and private pieces of peoples lives. I take great care to protect those pieces of them, as well as take pride in being trusted with such.

When trust is broken on any level, I am hurt. Not necessarily hurt by the person that broke my trust, but usually disappointed in my choice. Ultimately I am responsible for my choice of trusting someone. By keeping my trust they are living up to the expectations that I put on them. By breaking my trust they show me that I need to reevaluate my choices.
