I need some ideas on what works...

Simple.... burn more calories than you eat, i.e. eat less and more healthy and exersize more.

I stick with very low fat intake thruout the day, I usually don't eat after 6pm but after a workout I get home around 7:30pm & will fix a low cal, no fat smoothie......1 banana (or several strawberries), skim milk, fat free chocolate syrup and crushed ice.....mmmmmmm so good! It gives me a boost of energy too which is needed because I work 3 nights a week until around 11pm.  I go to classes at the gym 4 nights a week. It's more motivating for me than working the machines.  I love Body Combat (Cardio Kickboxing). That's a high intensity cardio workout and the instructor ROCKS so if classes interest you, find one w/an instructor that makes it fun in addition to making you sweat 'til you bleed!  Good luck!

Several years ago I was addicted to rice & salsa and that's ALL I ate in the evenings for over a year. No fat at all & very filling but unfortunately I used white rice which is heavy in starch. If I had done my research I'd have used brown rice but live & learn right? lol

i lost 40 pounds using Weight Watchers guidlines - i have 60 more to go.  It is a life change and not temporary.  i am also reducing my sodium intake to help control my blood pressure.

Some key points - cooking methods include broiling and no frying.  Increase fresh vegetables, decrease carbs.  Use lean cuts of meat and remove skin from poultry - a serving is only 4 oz.  Whole wheat pasta and bread instead of white.  Fresh fruit.  When eating at a restaurant half of it goes home for another meal.  Minimize canned and prepared foods.  No sugared drinks or desserts.  Lots of water.  A daily multivitamin.

Like an earlier poster said...follow whatever you choose all the way through maintenance.

That really sums it up.

All the diets and times eat a day go toward the psychology of the brain. What I mean by that is how one deals with hunger or treats food. Reason why Atkins works well for many because it allows them to still eat the food they like for the most part and just strip it of the extras that have the extra calories for example.

Eating small healthy multiple times a day can be for some a way to avoid bad snacking or going off your new way to eat because you have a tough time dealing with feeling hungry. Being more active means not only burning more calories but means your brain will be less focused on food.

But a big key is to never diet but to try to change your eating and exercise patterns for a permanent way that will be good for you in the long term. This requires losing the crash diets and moving slowly and let your weight drop off slowly. It means not going completely cold turkey on the things you love but be sensible about it. Like how FangsNfeet wrote have a naughty day or if you love donuts have one every Sunday morning as a treat but none the rest of the week.

Living healthy is finding what works for you and that you can do and live with over your life and not some small period of time.

What has and still is working for me is the Dr. Bernstein clinic diet which includes vitamins B6 and B12 shots.  I've cheated a little here and there so haven't dropped as much as I should have but since the end of March I've lost 53 lbs. Gone from a 44 man's jeans to a woman's 18 plus lost 2 bra sizes.

Eat small portions of healthy foods, several times a day.  For me, the trick is finding the good food that attracts me.  Not forcing myself to eat what I don't like.  And I wouldn't say juice is bad for you.  Just find the 100% juices with no sugar added at Trader Joe's or something.  Cranberry is good for the kidneys for those who's addicted to coffee like me, lol!  Working out helps too and I'm not talking about the grueling workouts you have to put your body through.  I jog about 20-30 minutes a day on the cardio machines then jump into the pool to relax my muscles.  The key is to keep your body active, not body building.  Hope this helps!
